宇宙旅行から帰ってきてUbuntuを作ったMark Shuttleworth
IBMがRedHat買収を発表して様々な憶測が飛び交うLinux界隈だが、UbuntuがLTSの延長を発表した。そのUbuntuは何を狙ってるのか見てみよう。
Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning ‘humanity to others’. It is often described as reminding us that ‘I am what I am because of who we all are’. We bring the spirit of Ubuntu to the world of computers and software. The Ubuntu distribution represents the best of what the world’s software community has shared with the world.
Ubuntuは古代アフリカ語で「humanity to others」を意味する。そして「I am what I am because of who we all are」を思い出させる。意訳すると「私がいまこうしているのは私達すべてのおかげ」という感じだろうか。

Mark founded security specialist Thawte in 1996, and became the first South African in space when he flew to the ISS in 2002 on Soyuz TM-34. He founded Ubuntu and Canonical in 2004, combining responsibility for strategy and user experience at Canonical with roles on the Ubuntu Technical Board and Community Council.

ライバルのRedHatとの関係が気になって読み始めたが、個人で宇宙に行く話の方が気になってしょうがない。
