Should you shave before or after washing your face?
Should I shave before or after shower? I know everyone always says hot shower before shaving but I've found that I prefer to wash with hot water and a pre-shave or moisturizing soap then shave and take a nice hot shower after my shave. It seems to help with any razor burn I might have. Then after the shower, I apply my alum and or aftershave. Anyone else does the hot shower after their shave?
I listened to the veterans out there and began showering before a shave. I don’t think it has any effect on me.
So I shower afterward now and then do my post-shave routine of alum, witch hazel, Nivea balm.
Should I Shave my Beard Before or After Shower?
Having a hot shower is beneficial but personally, I prefer shaving right before bedtime and not after a shower as showers tend to steam up my bathroom mirror.
For me, my shower and shave are completely divorced from one another. I don't think the shower helps one bit. In fact, while I use hot water to soak my brush (for about 60 seconds... no more is needed) and bloom the soap, I use cold water to shave. If you're getting irritation, I suggest trying cold water instead of hot. I know many people that have helped.
If I’m using a fancy soap that I paid too much for but don’t like the scent I shave, then shower. If I want to smell like my soap for a while, I shave after. I have 2.5 bathrooms so if I’m shaving after the shower I don’t shave in the same bathroom that I showered in (foggy mirrors)
I step into the shower, wash my hair and face, step out, shave, and then step back into the shower to clean off shave soap and clean my body. Once back out I do alum and any other post-shave stuff.
My first step is cleansing the face with very warm water. This also softens my whiskers to make the shave easier. I then lather up with a good cream that has good lubricants for the shave. I always do a 3 pass shave, then hop in the shower to wash off the shave soap and wash up.
After my shower, I’ll apply a quality shave balm to protect my face for the day.
