サタポとエキゾチシズム
サタポ結成時からのコンセプトとして「ブリコラージュ」と「エキゾチシズム」というのがあります。
ブリコラージュについては過去に公式サイトで解説がありました。

もう一つのキーワード「エキゾチシズム」、これは作品の至るところに散りばめられています。
初期作品のサブジェクトのコンピ提供曲で、すでにハワイアンなサンプルを前面に出しています。1996年。
そして1stアルバム「NIRVANA or LUNCH?」(1998)が澁澤龍彦の「高丘親王航海記」をモチーフに製作されたというのは前に紹介しましたが、その小説の要素のひとつが「エキゾチシズム」。このアルバムでは音楽的にあまりエキゾの直接的な影響は感じられないが、その世界観を意識しているのかも。
3rd「Belle Excentrique」(2000) ではレス・バクスターを筆頭にモロにエキゾ/モンドなムードが充満しています。
それからneji初期のリリースで、元ネタ集的なミックス「Paradise Lost」(2001)

にも色濃くエキゾが滲んでいます…というかタイトルがズバリ。
収録曲云々より、周辺人脈をブリコラージュのネタにしたような印象を受ける。
この「知り合いをまとめてコンピにぶち込む手法」はその後のヌヌヌンの王道スタイルとなり、そこからのフィードバックを再びサタポ本体に還元してより進化していくことになります。

サタポは、2016年にも久々にエキゾもののEPをリリースした。
これらの作品を聴いていると狭義のエキゾチカというよりも、エキゾを含めた変な音楽を紹介したムック本「モンドミュージック」からの影響が大きいのではないか、と思われます。
世界的には「モンドミュージック」というジャンル分けは無いそうで、日本のみで定着した概念のようです。映画ジャンルとしての「モンドムービー」のほうがポピュラーだとか。
ughはサタポ以前から、名作からカルトムービーまで映画作品をかなり観てたようで、サタポも音楽よりむしろ映画からインスパイアされたものの方が多いのかも・・・
