March Madness in Japan!

\ 日本語版はコチラ /

Hello everyone!
I am Akira Sugimoto, a third-year student at the University of Tsukuba's School of Applied Science and Engineering, and a member of the University of Tsukuba Basketball Club.
I also participate in TSUKUBA LIVE as the “athletes” side of the event.

One Shining Moment

This is a video recap of the No. 1 college basketball tournament in the United States, commonly known as March Madness.

When I was in high school, I told myself I will stop playing basketball after college. But after watching this video, I decided to continue playing basketball in college. Viewing the amazing players who are so passionate, coaches giving their all, and fans cheering for their team, I felt their energy placed in this one moment and was amazed by it. At the same time, I began to think, "I want to create a stage like this”. When I thought where can I achieve this, I knew University of Tsukuba will be the one. I will never forget the moment I made this decision during highschool.

After entering the University of Tsukuba, I joined the basketball team, but due to COVID, I was unable to play as much as I wanted, and I spent two years in an unbearable situation. In October last year, we were able to hold a home game for the first time in three years.

what I am aiming for with TSUKUBA LIVE!

My personal goal with TSUKUBA LIVE! is to make students and faculty members who are not involved in sports through clubs or other activities think how great and interesting the University of Tsukuba's sports programs are. Since they have gone to the trouble of enrolling in the University of Tsukuba and spending four years here, we would like them to watch Japan's top-class sports, and ultimately, we would like more and more people to support the University of Tsukuba's club activities in general.
