What do we do as TSUKUBA LIVE! (TL) Creators?

Miki
I am currently in the PR team and I help translate articles and brainstorm idea’s with my team on ways to attract and encourage international students to attend the home game events.

Shoryu
I also help translate posts and comments for international students. I am also the MC for the main event and used my experiences I had from attending sports events in the States to excite the crowd.

How did we find about TSUKUBA LIVE!

Shoryu
I was recruited from one of the team members. He was looking for students who can bring new perspectives to the project. When I first met him and learned about the details, I immediately decided to join the team.

Miki
During my freshman year, I wanted to challenge my self and start my internship in a Japanese environment where I can contribute my skills and help create new projects; so then, Sho recommended me to try working in the project TSUKUBA LIVE! home game event. What is so great about the team is that everyone who is helping build this event are students that are amazingly talented and open minded, which was a perfect fit for me.

PR team meeting

Shoryu
It is truly amazing how open minded they are. Just because we are foreign students, they do not create a barrier, instead they are trying to learn from us and ask for idea’s to make the event more global and entertaining. Another great thing about them is they are mostly Master’s students so their decision making speed and perspectives are off the chart. As an undergraduate student, both of us can learn a lot from them.

What kind of event do we want to make?

Miki
I want to create an environment where people can get together to socialize, have fun, and also understand the hardships the athletes go through to take part in sports events like these. I also want not only the international students, but the japanese students to understand the joy and excitement of getting together through sports events and creating a big community, supporting our university’s sports league.

Shoryu
I want to make this event where everyone can break the wall and get to know each other and become one as a university. Additionally, I want to make this place an environment where athletes can shine. In the U.S., athletes get cheered by their whole school and receive lots of love from fans. However, in Japanese Universities, none of these features exist. From this event, I hope students can learn how great our University’s athletes are and start rooting for them.

What is College Sports to you?

Miki
College sports is about collaboration and creating the spirit of sports. Sports can really make people connect together through the smallest things such as; everyone cheering for the same team and creating a bond. If we create the environment for these opportunities, it can become something amazing.

To international Students

Miki
I really want to encourage international students to help us create this environment and support our sports league. We can become as a whole and create a warming environment for the future students. We believe that TSUKUBA LIVE! would be a home game event which not only will spread through Japan but will be known globally.

Shoryu
I want to show appreciation to every staff members because they look at us international students as students. There is no barrier, they just simply want us to enjoy the event as students. For the volunteer staff members, more than half of the members are international students and this event can be done due to their effort. To all international students, I believe that you came to this country to expose yourself the different aspects of Japanese culuturel. If you want to accomplish this, this is the opportunity to do so! This organization will treat you with equal respect.

To the TSUKUBA LIVE! staff members, once again, thank you so much for this opportunity. I only have love and appreciation for you.
