It’s Party Time! Yet, Feeling Blue?

Last week, I organized a small #Christmas #party for my in-house colleagues, what we call #Bonenkai (忘年会 = Forget-the-Year Party).

Downtown was heaving. Some had apparently had too much to drink.

Seeing such drunkards, the Germans would say
“er (oder sie) ist blau” [literally: he/she is blue] 

I find this expression amusing as “turning blue” (#青くなる) has another implication in Japan.
 
People turn “blue” when they are scared or frightened in my home country. “Turning blue” in Japanese is similar to “turning pale” in English.
 
Are you feeling blue from “Blau sein (being blue)”?  No wonder!
