【YouTube stream log】Strengthening My Feeble English with Xenoblade DE 14【ENG】
I'm Touki. I'm studying English while playing Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. I was playing it with English voices and subtitles. I spoke English in these videos as much as possible.
I try to write about my videos that are streamed on YouTube.
I also wrote the same article in Japanese.
This article contains spoilers for Xenoblade DE. I have cleared the Japanese versions of Xenoblade DE, 2 and 3.
1. Detail of video
【Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition】墓所詣で、言い得て妙なネーミング【14】
This video title means "the naming of the Trial of the Tomb in Japanese suits the event."
This event is called "Bosho-moude(墓所詣で)" in Japanese ver. which means going to the Tomb and meeting the imperial ancestral spirits.
Previous summary of the stream
Shulk and his companions rescued a worker in the Eryth Sea and returned to Alcamoth, where a ceremony was underway. During the event, it was revealed that Melia was the crown princess of the High Entia. She was preparing to undergo the Trial of the Tomb, an ancient and traditional High Entia ritual. However, Shulk had a vision of Melia in danger during the trial. Although her brother, Kallian, tried to prevent them from intervening, Dunban convinced him to let them go. Accompanied by Alvis, Shulk and his companions set out for the High Entia Tomb. Meanwhile, Melia was already navigating the Tomb on her own.
2. Thoughts on playing
When I first played Xenoblade, I found Melia's solo section in the High Entia Tomb to be quite challenging. However, after completing Xenoblade DE twice and playing the side story Future Connected, I've grown more accustomed to her gameplay.
The ancestral spirits' voices in English sounded so cool.
In the battle against Tyrea and the Telethia, my initial party of Melia, Sharla, and Shulk was instantly wiped out. After some trial and error, I swapped Sharla for Riki, and we managed to win. Heropon Riki proved his strength.
Melia's speech during the ceremony was so dignified, though I could only understand about half of it in English. After the stream, I rewatched the scene in Japanese and could grasp around 80%. It seems her dialogue was challenging in both languages.
I also found it interesting how Riki gives nicknames to other members, calling Dunban "Dundun" and Melia "Melly."
Since meeting Melia will advance the main story, I decided to stop the stream here in this stream. Next time, I'll take some time to explore the Imperial Capital Alcamoth.
3. The others
I couldn't catch up with translating the subtitles to Japanese. I want to improve my translation speed but don't do enough.
I want to translate Melia's speech during the ceremony and check what she said.
