経歴 Biography
1935年 東京・板橋に生まれる
1953年 高校在学中に示現会展、日本水彩画展に入選
1958年 武蔵野美術学校洋画科卒業
1964年 国際青年美術家展、一陽会、光風会等に入選
以降、日本橋画廊、あかね画廊（銀座）、銀座松屋ほか各地で個展開催
1978年 悳俊彦画集出版（形象社）
1981年 テレビ朝日「徹子の部屋」出演。武蔵野を描き続ける画家として紹介される
1982年「明治の古典7 武蔵野 平凡/篠田一士編」（学研）に作品収録
1983年 風土会に入会、2019年まで毎年大作数点を発表
その出品作の多くは京都芸術大学附属康耀堂美術館に収蔵
2016年 練馬区立美術館「国芳イズム ―歌川国芳とその系脈 武蔵野の洋画家 悳俊彦コレクション」展にて、浮世絵コレクションと共に悳作品10点が紹介される
2021年 国際浮世絵学会賞受賞
2022、23年 あかね画廊にて新作展開催
1935 Born in Itabashi, Tokyo.
1953 During high school, winning a prize hosted by The Institute of Art Organisation in Japan “Shigenkai”.
1958 Graduated Musashino Art School, majored in oil painting.
1964 Winning prizes in The International Young Artists Exhibition, “Ichiyokai”, “Kofukai” and etc. Holding exhibitions in various galleries such as Nihonbashi Gallery, Akane Gallery (in Ginza), and Matsuya Ginza.
1978 Publishing an art book “Isao Toshihiko Books of Painting” (The Keisho Publisher).
1981 Appearing on the TV Asahi show “Tetsuko’s Room”, introduced as the painter of Musashino.
1982 Pieces printed in “The Classic (Japanese literature) of Meiji era vol.7, Musashino Heibon/Edited by Hajime Shinoda” (Published by Gakken).
1983 Entering “Fudo-kai”. Releasing many masterpieces till 2019.
2016 The exhibition, “Kuniyoshi-ism – Kuniyoshi Utagawa and The Apprentices, The Painter of Musashino Toshihiko Isao Collection” was held at “Nerima Art Museum”. Isao’s art pieces were also, introduced
along his Ukiyo-e collection.
2021 Receives the 15th Award of the International Ukiyo-e Society.
2022, 23 New art works exhibitions held at “Akane Gallery”.
2024年 『小回顧展 武蔵野の画家 悳俊彦の89年』 ご挨拶Introducing Toshihiko ISAO from The Previous "Retrospective Solo Exhibition 2024"
振り返ってみると、私は少年時代から身近な東京郊外、いわゆる「武蔵野」を描いていました。第二次世界大戦下、集団疎開先の長野でもスケッチブックは手放しませんでしたが、東京へ戻り中学時代には再び「武蔵野」を描く様になりました。示現会に初入選したのも高校時代に描いた武蔵野風景でした。しかし、戦後海外から新しい美術がどっと上陸。日本の画家たちを虜にします。私もその例外ではありませんでした。ピカソを中心としたキュビズム、非具象絵画のジョルジュ・マテューほか様々な潮流が日本画壇を席巻、私はその殆どの流派を試みたのでした。一時期長いスランプに陥りましたが、やがて具象的表現に戻り旧友である「武蔵野」を描く様になり半世紀、今日に至っています。それは武蔵野の自然を描き残したいという若い頃からの願いでもありますが、昔ながらの具象画を踏襲するのではない、現代の新しい具象的表現を目指しイーゼルに向かっています。
今回は、変化に富んだ時代背景と共に私の画道遍歴の一端をご覧いただくことに致しました。ご高覧頂けましたら幸いに存じます。

Looking back on my childhood, I have always been drawn “Musashino”, the scenery of the Tokyo countryside.
During World War II, we evacuated to Nagano Prefecture. Night and day, I kept my sketchbook by my side. When I returned to Tokyo for Middle School, I started drawing Musashino again.
The painting of Musashino scenery, which I drew whilst I was in High School, was my first selected piece of The Institute of Art Organisation in Japan - Shigenkai.
After a time, many different styles of art drastically flowed into Japan, which captured the eye of numerous Japanese artists, including myself. Cubism from Picasso, non-abstract art from artists such as Georges Mathieu, and many other trends arrived into Japanese art industry. I was inspired by these and experimented with many of these styles back then, however I gradually fell into a long slump with my career. It was painting Musashino scenery with non-abstract expression that brought me back out of this slump. I have now been painting Musashino scenery for more than half a century.
It has always been my wish to keep the nature and essence of Musashino in paintings so that the scenery will be forever remembered. Moreover, rather than following the traditional non-abstract style, I would like to aim towards a new non-abstract expression. Thus, I keep facing my easel every day.
In this exhibition, I hope you enjoy my journey through the various scenes within each painting.
Lastly, I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart, my family, friends, and teachers, who have supported me and given me strength to continue my career for so many years.
