海外の面接で良く聞かれる質問と答え方
こんにちは。カナダで10年働いてるmiyukiです！今日は海外での面接でよく聞かれる質問とその回答の仕方のコツを教えます。
英語の履歴書作成、海外の会社に応募、連絡が来た！
おめでとうございます。次の課題は面接ですね。
面接に呼ばれた時点で必要なスキル、適性があるという事なのでジョブオファー獲得に近づいている証拠です。
私はカナダで働いて10年経っているので、実は日本で面接したのは新卒の時が最後になります。この記事を日本の皆様にわかりやすく書くために、日本での面接の質問事項もリサーチして比べながらまとめました。質問内容は日本も海外も似ているなとう印象でしたが、答えかたが少し違うのでコツをつかんで下さい。
海外の面接で良く聞かれる質問と答え方
"Tell Me About Yourself"
日本で言うと、自己紹介をしてくださいという質問です。この質問では現在、過去、未来の自分に結び付けてあなたの経歴が応募した仕事とどのようにマッチしているかをアピールしましょう。長さは30秒から1分程度と簡潔に話す事をお勧めします。
Tip: Don’t give your complete employment history. Instead, give a pitch that shows exactly why you’re the right fit for the job.
回答例
Well, I’m currently an account executive at XYZ, where I handle our top performing client. Before that, I worked at an agency where I was on three different major national healthcare brands. And while I really enjoyed the work that I did, I’d love the chance to dig in much deeper with one specific healthcare company, which is why I’m so excited about this opportunity with ABCD.
"Why do you want this job?"
日本で言うと志望動機。応募した仕事や会社の事業などを前もって調べて、熱意が伝わるように話しましょう。また仕事に就いてから短期間、長期間で達成したい内容も話せれば尚良いでしょう。
Tip: show off what you know about the company and incorporate into your pitch for why you’re a good fit
回答例
The first thing that caught my eye when I saw the position posted was definitely that it was at XYZ Advisers. I know that you build a lot of your tools in-house, the team is small, and you run a variety of long- and short-term strategies in the U.S. equities markets using a quantitative approach. But the part that really spoke to me about this position was the chance to combine both the programming skills I gained from being a senior software engineer and my knack for quantitative analysis in a position that actively lets me engage with my growing interest in investing and portfolio management.
"Why Should We Hire You?"
日本の面接でこの質問の直訳どおり「どうしてあなたを雇うべき？」などとは聞かれませんが、意味的には「あなたの能力をどのように業務に活かせるとお考えですか？」と似ているかなと思うので、心配しないでください。
経験、適性、熱意をアピールする絶好のチャンス。経験を活かして、どのように貢献できるかを伝えましょう。また他の応募者を予想して他人にはない自分の強みを伝えるのも良いです。
tip: Explain how you can make the interviewer’s life easier by addressing her most imminent issue.
回答例
The job listing states that you are looking for someone with patience and superior communication skills. While volunteering and holding an office for the Special Olympics, I learned how to be patient with the athletes and participants at our state’s Special Olympics. Coordinating the event helped me develop better communication and planning skills which are imperative when performing the responsibilities you described today.
I’m glad you asked. You explained earlier that leadership qualities are a bonus for this position. In my 10 years of experience as a sales manager, I have effectively managed teams of over 15 people. I developed motivational skills that earned my region the “Region of the Year” five years in a row for consistently meeting and exceeding sales goals. I will bring those leadership abilities to this position.
"What Are Your Greatest Strengths?"
この質問はまさしく「長所は何ですか」という応募した仕事に合う自分の長所を1～3つに絞り、具体的な話を加えて説得力のあるように伝えましょう。
Tip: Pick one or a few specific qualities that are relevant to the position and illustrate them with examples.
回答例
I think some of my greatest strengths are my communication skills and willingness to take initiative. During my last internship, when I was helping to manage several social media accounts, I made sure that everyone on the team was on the same page and knew what our messaging strategy was by taking the initiative to send out a weekly email to keep the team up to date and to seek feedback. This ended up being so helpful that the weekly social media update was incorporated into a full-time staff member’s responsibilities.
"What are your biggest weaknesses?"
この質問は日本の面接の質問の「短所は何ですか」です。自分の短所を長所の裏面として話す事がよく紹介されていますが、大切な事は自分の短所をどのように克服してきたか、またはしているかなどを含めてポジティブに回答しましょう。
Tip: Whatever you choose to talk about, the trick is to sound genuine and to end things on a positive note.
回答例
When I was a junior web designer at Harold’s Hats, I was asked to revamp our size guide and make it more fun and visually interesting. Unfortunately, I became so fixated on finding the perfect font that I missed the deadline. These days, I break each project down into mini-tasks, each with their own deadline. If I spend too long on an individual thing, I set it aside and move on to the next one. Usually, by the time I come back to the imperfect piece, I can be more objective about whether or not it needs more work.
