Appreciation for the 1/28 "A Society That Does Not Discard Earth" Seminar
A major theme for the future of society is the idea of "returning to the earth." It was significant to have a cross-disciplinary discussion with organic expert Natsuko Lemke and Yasuko Akasaka, the representative of the National Excavated Soil Recycling Association, sharing this common recognition.
I sincerely appreciate the participation of over 70 attendees.
From the Japanese Words "Tsuchi " to "Hiragana Architecture"
During the seminar, I introduced linguist Shizuka Shirakawa’s theory that the Japanese word "つち (Tsuchi)" does not merely refer to soil as a material but originates from "霊ち (Reichi)," meaning a sacred or spiritual land.
While I reported on the European approach to earth architecture from LELM2024 , which is advancing towards rationalization and mechanization, I believe that the message from Japan should focus on craftsmanship, adaptability, and embracing imperfection.
One possible perspective on this is the unique Japanese script, Hiragana.
Even the character "ち (Chi)" itself symbolizes the cycle of the earth.
As we modernize earth architecture in Japan, I hope to explore Hiragana Architecture, a gentle, fluid approach that resonates with human emotions.
■1/28「土を捨てない社会」セミナーのお礼
これからの社会の大きなテーマは「土に還ること」という共通認識でオーガニック・エキスパートの
レムケなつこさん、全国発生土リサイクル協会の代表 赤坂泰子さんと分野をまたいで
お話させていただき、とても有意義でした。
70名以上たくさんのご参加を頂き心から感謝申し上げます。
■ 日本語の「土」と「つち」から「ひらがなの建築」へ
その中で日本語の「つち」は素材としての土ではなく、「霊ち」からきているという
国語学者 白川静さんの説を紹介させていただきました。
今回セミナーでは国際会議LEHM2024を紹介しながらヨーロッパの合理化・機械化に進む土の建築を報告させていただきましたが、
では日本からの発信を考えるとやはり手仕事や変化と余白を重んじるやわらかな建築ではないかと思います。
一つの切り口としてそれは日本独特の文字「ひらがな」ではないかと。
「ち」の字も大地の循環がそこに表現されています。
日本において土の建築の現代化とともに
人の心を掬うやわらかな「ひらがなの建築」を考えてゆきたいと思います。
