Dear my old friend,

How have you been? As you know, I enjoy my time every day. 

You may not think of me as your friend, but I believe you are my friend.

I have rarely written letters in my life, but the other day I found out that you were looking at this diary, so here I am writing to you in English, which I have learned thanks to you.

Although you call me Tomo, I call you "you". When did it start? I don't intend to change it for the rest of my life.

It was a long time ago that we met. You are definitely the person I have been with the longest in my life.

We have been together for a long time, and I know there have been many times when you have grown tired of me. I don't know how many times we argued and fought with each other. 

Nevertheless, I'm good friends with you now, so I don't believe I've ever acted wrongly.

We would often go out together a lot, but in the past few years we have hardly gone out at all. I enjoy going out with you about once a year. Today's dinner with you was very meaningful to me.

In the end, I want to tell you something. As I always say, I am very jealous of you because you are friends with such a fun person like me. I want to be like you, having fun friends like me.

For the rest of your life, you have to take good care of the friend, me. There may be times when we get frustrated with each other, but let's continue to be good friends.

親愛なる友人へ

お元気でしたか？ご存知の通り、私は毎日楽しく過ごしています。 

君は私を友人だと思っていないかもしれませんが、私は君のことを友人だと信じています。

私はこれまでほとんど手紙を書いたことがありませんでしたが、先日君がこの日記を見ていることを知ったので、君のおかげで習得できた英語で手紙を書いていきます。

君は私をともと呼びますが、私は君を「君」と呼びます。それはいつからだったでしょうか。私はこの先の人生もそれを変えるつもりはありません。

私たちが出会ったのはずいぶん前のことですね。君は間違いなく、私の人生で最も長く一緒にいた人です。

長い間一緒にいて、私に嫌気が差したことも多々あったかと思います。何度、口論や喧嘩したか見当もつきません。 

それでも、今でも君とは友達でいられているので今までの行動は間違っていなかったと思っています。

昔はよく一緒に出かけていましたが、ここ数年は一緒に出かけることがほとんどありませんでしたね。 年に1回くらい、一緒に出かけるのが楽しいです。今日の君とのディナーもとても非常に有意義なものでした。

最後に君に伝えたいことがあります。いつも言っているように、私のような楽しい人間と友人になっている君がとても羨ましいです。 私も君のように、私のような楽しい友人を持つようになりたいものです。

この先の人生でも私という友人を大切にしてください。 お互いにイライラすることもあるとは思いますが、これからも良き友人でいましょう。
