日記91 : Balancing Work and Play

Recently, my work has become busier, and I feel like I have less free time to pursue hobbies and improve myself.

Work-life balance is a well-talked-about topic. Often, it represents situations where people are so busy at work that they don’t have enough time to spend with their family. On the other hand, some people are so busy with childcare that they can’t work as much as they want.

I think it’s rare to discuss situations where someone is too absorbed in their hobbies and neglects their work. For many people, it’s difficult to resist what is considered a duty to survive and just follow their passions.

However, after retiring and getting older, we may regret not spending more time doing what we really wanted to do. (Of course there is a possibility that we might feel angry that we didn’t save more money, or we may be working hard to live even after retiring and have no time to look back on life.)
To be satisfied with our hobbies and leisure activities, I think it’s a good idea to make them somewhat work-like by, for example, creating to-do lists and schedules. I just think about it but I don't actually do it.
