A one-day detox trip in Tokyo (Day 13)
If you live in Tokyo and you also suffer the same problem as me, high blood sugar, or hyperglycemia, this post will give you inspiration for blood sugar control while still allowing you to enjoy the food you love.
Instead of talking about knowledge regarding diabetes, I will show you a one-day detox trip in which you can go by yourself or with friends.
What will you do?
1. Find out low carb foods near you
2. Walk 5000 steps
3. Make green salad
4. Do 30 min aerobic exercises
Overall, the journey will last about 4 to 5 hours.
🏃♀️ Ready? Let's go 🏃
⬇️
⬇️
10:30 am - Search supermarkets and Lawson near you
🌵Search "supermarkets" and "Lawson" on Google map, add 4 to 6 of them to the want-to-go list and plan the route that connects them.
The first step of sugar control starts with knowing what kind of low carb stuff that are available to you.
Why Lawson?
Lawson is one of the big convenience store brands in Japan. Relatively, it sells more weight-loss-friendly foods compared to 7-11 or Family Mart.
Trust me, Lawson will be your good friend in fighting against blood sugar. (Photo by Wiki)

11:00 am - Visit the supermarkets and check nutrition facts labels on food
🌵Grab your shopping bag. Install a step counter app on your phone. You are all set!
The nutrition fact labels
This is what a common nutrition fact label looks like in Japan. Carbohydrate in Japanese is 炭水化物.
🌵Make "reading the label" your habit whenever you grab food.
Ideally, the consumption of carbohydrate is 20~40g per meal and 70~130g a day.
The low carbo logo
In Japan, there is a social group called ロカボライフ推進事務局 which aims to promote a healthier eating style with low carb foods.
Only foods that meet the standard can have this logo on the package. In the supermarket, try to pay attention to this logo.
Also, check their official site below to find out more low carb foods that are available in Japan.

Snacks in Lawson
This is my favorite part of the journey, Lawson! You can find over 50+ low carb snacks in Lawson, both sweet and savory ones.
Various choices of nut snacks:
Zero sugar cookies:
🌵Check the collection of low carbohydrate bread!
See the low carbo logo? The butter stick only contains 9g of carbohydrates, which a normal butter stick usually has more than 20g. The carb is Nearly 50% off.

Low carb drinks and noodles in supermarkets
Now, you are in a supermarket. Soy milk and almond milk are very low in carbohydrates. Get some of them.
Also, try to find low carb noodles made of tofu and konnyaku.
⬇️
⬇️
Cheap vegetables from greengrocers
🌵Visit a greengrocer to buy vegetables and fruits for your salad meal:
- Two types of green leaves
- Tomatoes
- Pee sprouts
- Strawberry
Basically, anything you like, there is no way you can fail making a salad plate.
⬇️
⬇️
11:40 am - Aim to walk at least 5000 steps
It's nearly the end of the walk, check your step counter app. Head for your home if you already reach 5000 steps. Well done!
⬇️
⬇️
12:10 am - Make a salad and record how many carbs you eat
🌵Be a one day vegetarian!
My flatmate made an omelet of onions and zucchini and a bowl of tuna salad, plus low carb butter sticks from Lawson. I prepared salad and zero carb noodles seasoning with the spicy sauce.
🌵Count how many carbs in a meal
I use the Health app on the iPhone to record how many carbs I eat. As mentioned above, 20~40g is recommended per meal.
⬇️
⬇️
2:30 pm - ZUMBA!
🌵Spend about 15-30 min doing the exercise.
I love dancing ZUMBA, but you can do any kind of aerobic exercise. If you wanna try some ZUMBA, here is an easy one for you to start with.

⬇️
That is the end of the one-day detox trip, and I hope you enjoy the day as much as my flatmate and I did today.
