トーマスたちは、モウゼスに到着した。街で、玄武術士について情報を集めることにした。

「玄武術？それならば、この街の北半分を支配するウンディーネが玄武術の使い手だよ。玄武術については、彼女の右に出る者はいないと言われている」

「なるほど・・・北半分を支配しているということは、南半分はほかの誰かが支配しているのか？」

「ああ、ボルカノという男の術士で、朱鳥術の使い手だ。二人は常に争っていて、街の住民としては争いに巻き込まれるのは勘弁してほしい。ほら、あの建物を見てくださいよ。二人の争いで術の流れ弾があたって、壊れかけているんです」

「酷いな・・・どうして、二人はそんなに争っているのか、知っているか？」

「ああ、どうも、街の真ん中に島があって、そこに古い井戸がある。昔は飲み水を得るために利用されていたが、ある時から死んだ人を放り込むようになったらしくて・・・幽霊やゾンビのモンスターの巣窟になっている。そこに、何か重要なものがあって、それを二人は欲しいみたいなんだ」

「・・・その井戸に何があるんだろうな・・・とにかくまずは、ウンディーネに、玄武術士を集めてもらえるか、相談に行ってみよう」

トーマスたちは、街の中でもひときわ大きい、ウンディーネの館に入っていった。

「誰だお前たちは？よし、戦闘訓練のために、戦わせてもらうぜ！」

「え、入るなりなんだよ・・・仕方がないな、大車輪！」

トーマスは、ひらめいた技、大車輪を使って、大勢の術士を一気に戦闘不能にした。

「く・・・強い」

「おやめなさい！」

二階から、女性が降りてきて、術士たちを制止した。

「私はウンディーネ、玄武術士よ。弟子たちがご迷惑をおかけしたわ。それにしても、素晴らしい腕前。南のボルカノを倒していただけないかしら？」

「そうすれば、バンガードを動かすことに協力してくれるか？」

「もちろんよ。あと、お金も払うわよ」

「わかった。任せてくれ」

「頼んだわよ。あと、前金も払っておくわ」

前金として、2000オーラムを得た。さらに、成功報酬はもっともらえるらしい。

「よし、じゃあ、次は南のボルカノの館に行くか」

北と南を行き来できる門は閉鎖されていて、かなり遠回りをして南のモウゼスに入った。

「あそこがボルカノの館だな」

南のモウゼスでもひときわ大きいボルカノの館に入っていった。

「誰だ！まあいい、新しいアイテムの実験に戦わせてもらおう」

「また、いきなりかよ！」

「フラッシュアロー！」

今度は、サラが、一度に何本もの矢を放つ技で複数の敵を戦闘不能にした。

「く、強い・・・」

「やめろ！」

二階から、長身の男が降りてきて、制止した。

「弟子たちが失礼した。私は、朱鳥術士のボルカノだ。それにしても、素晴らしい腕前。北のウンディーネを倒していただけないかな？報酬ははずむぞ。前金と、成功報酬だ」

「よし、いいだろう」

「・・・ちょっと、トム、二人の依頼を受けてどうするのよ・・・」

「前金だけでももらおうじゃないか・・・」

「・・・あなた、ハリードみたいなこと言って・・・」

その後、トーマスたちは、門を閉鎖しているボルカノの術士にどいてもらって、井戸に向かった。

「この井戸に何があるんだ・・・」

「ちょっと！トム、ウンディーネに玄武術士を集めてもらうんじゃないの！」

「いや、この井戸の中には、きっとお宝があるんだよ」

結局、トーマスたちは、井戸の中へと入っていった・・・。井戸の中は、洞窟とつながっていて、洞窟の奥へと進んでいった。

ゾンビなどを倒しつつ、奥まで進むと、骸骨のようなモンスターが盾を装備していた。

「あの盾は・・・何か異様な雰囲気を醸し出しているな・・・」

骸骨のモンスターは、他に悪魔系モンスターやゾンビなどを従えて、こちらに攻撃をしかけてきた。

トーマスは大車輪、サラはフラッシュアロー、エレンは錬気拳で配下のモンスター複数を倒し、そこをカタリナがブルクラッシュという大剣技で骸骨のボスを倒した。

「やった・・・盾を手に入れたぞ・・・よし、井戸から出よう」

井戸から出ると、ウンディーネとボルカノが怒り心頭で待ち構えていた。

「よくもだましたな！それは魔王の盾だ！俺に渡せ！」

「私に渡しなさい！」

「いいや、俺だ！」

「そんなこと言っている場合じゃないでしょう。まずは二人で協力してこいつらから盾を奪うのよ」

「・・・トム、二人の強力な術士を怒らせちゃったみたいだけど・・・」

「・・・仕方がない、戦うしかない」

「うわあ、玄武術だ！こっちも攻撃するぞ！チャージ！」

「ウォーターポール！」

トーマスの攻撃は、ウンディーネの守りの術、水の柱に阻まれた。

「ファイアーウォール！」

「プラズマショット！」

サラが技をひらめいて、ものすごい速さの矢を放った。すると、ボルカノは身体がしびれて動けなくなった。

「よし、ボルカノは動けないぞ。今度はウンディーネに攻撃だ！」

「トルネード！」

ハーマンは、蒼龍術でウンディーネに攻撃した。

「う・・・強い・・・負けたわ・・・」

「ハーマン、術も使えたのか」

「わしを、なめるな！」

「好きにしろ・・・お前らには負けた」

「二人とも、街の人を困らせるなよ！ところで、ウンディーネ、玄武術士をバンガードへ送ってもらえないか？フォルネウスと戦うために必要なんだ」

「いいわ・・・協力する・・・でも、私もあなたたちについて行くわ」

「え・・・なんで？」

「どうしても、魔王の盾が欲しかったのよ・・・私に装備させてちょうだい。それが、協力の条件よ」

「・・・わかった・・・じゃあ、ウンディーネも来てくれ」

こうして、トーマスチームは、トーマス・サラ・エレン・カタリナ・ノーラ・ハーマン・ウンディーネの7人になった。

「しかし、人数が多すぎるな・・・パーティをまた二つに分けよう」

7人は、モウゼスの宿に泊まって、作戦会議をした。

「フォルネウス打倒は、俺（トーマス）と、カタリナ、ノーラ、ハーマンの4人で行こう。サラ、エレン、ウンディーネの3人は、小さな村へ行って、グウェインのことを調べてきてくれ」

「私は、魔王の盾が装備できるなら、文句はないわ」

「なんで、そんなに魔王の盾にこだわるんだ？」

「魔王の盾は、術の力を増幅するのよ・・・その分、たくさん術の力を消費してしまうけれども、私は術のスペシャリストだから元々少ない力で術を使えるから、いいの」

「ちょっと待て・・・4人でフォルネウスと戦うつもりか！」

「ハーマン・・・そうだな・・・4人では少ないか」

「朱鳥術の使い手がいるといいんだが・・・フォルネウスの奴は、玄武地相だと体力を回復してしまうから、地相を変えながら戦ったほうがいい。俺も蒼龍の術で地相を変えられるが、もう一人いたほうがいい」

「朱鳥術・・・ボルカノか？」

「いや、彼はモウゼスを離れないわよ・・・」

こうして、3つのパーティが存在することになった。
