ミカエルは、リブロフとピドナにスパイを送り込み、「ロアーヌ侯爵ミカエルは、北方のモンスター討伐のために遠征に行く」という嘘の情報を流させた。そして、実際に影に北方まで偽の遠征に行かせることにした。

これで、相手の情報をかく乱し、ロアーヌへ攻め込ませたところを、叩きのめす作戦だ。

そこへ、モニカ、ユリアン、ハリード、エクレアがロアーヌへやってきた。

「殿、モニカ様がお帰りになられました」

「よし、通せ」

「お兄様・・・申し訳ございませんでした」

「よい・・・手紙にも書いたが、そのことは私は気にしてはいない。もともと、お前の意思を尊重するつもりだった。無理に嫁がせるつもりなどなかったのだ」

「だから、もうよい。そして、モニカがロアーヌから出ている間、ユリアン、ハリードが護衛してくれたのだな？感謝するぞ」

その後、ミカエルと少数の軍事参謀と、ハリードだけで作戦会議が行われた。

「敵軍は、リブロフ方面からと、南の砂漠からくる。そこで、ロアーヌの南の平原で合流し、攻めてくるはずだ。ハリードよ、お前は、ロアーヌの一部の軍を率いて、奇襲をしかけてくれ。南の砂漠からくる神王教団の軍に奇襲をかけて、リブロフ方面からの軍と合流できないようにするのだ」

「わかった。だが、ルートヴィッヒは、ピドナの軍は使ってこないのか？」

「スパイをもぐらせていて、そのあたりも調査済みだ。奴は、ピドナの軍を大々的に動かす気はないようだ。メッサーナ北部の状況も安定しておらず、ピドナの守りを緩めるリスクがあると考えているようだ」

「ハリードよ、お前は神王教団に恨みがあるだろう・・・わが軍を率いて、思い切り、神王教団の軍を叩いてくれ。私が指揮する軍は、リブロフ方面からくる軍を叩く。そのままリブロフへ進軍し、ルートヴィッヒ派の軍を壊滅させる。リブロフには、ゲッシア王朝の残党も多数いると聞いている。可能であれば、リブロフで反乱を起こすように、仕向けられないか？」

「そうだな・・・俺の元部下たちが、リブロフには大勢いる。可能だと思う」

「よし・・・決まりだな。奴らの軍はあと数日以内に攻めてくるはずだ」

ハリードが指揮する軍は、ナジュ砂漠北方にある山がちな地形に陣取った。ナジュ砂漠から北方へ抜けるルートを神王教団の軍が通るところを、側面から奇襲をかける作戦だ。

一方、ミカエルの軍は、ロアーヌ南西に広がる平原に陣取る。これで、リブロフ軍と神王教団軍は合流できず、壊滅させられるとミカエルは計画した。

ハリードの軍は、望遠鏡でナジュ砂漠方面から神王教団軍が来るのを待ち構えていた。

「ハリード様！砂漠から、神王教団の軍勢がきました」

「よし、いよいよだな。タイミングを間違えるなよ。ばれないように、奇襲をしかけるんだ」

神王教団の軍が、山と山の間の切通になっている細い通路にとおりかかったとたん・・・側面からハリードの軍が一斉に矢をいかけた。

神王教団の軍は突然の攻撃に、総崩れとなった。

「いまだ、一気に突撃をするぞ！」

神王教団の軍は完全に混乱状態に陥っていた。

「なぜだ、なぜロアーヌの軍がこんなところにいる？ええい、自爆部隊を使えい！」

神王教団の軍は、死を恐れず、戦いに貢献すれば天国へ行けると洗脳されている。そのため、爆弾を持って特攻をしかけてきた。

「まずい、あれは特攻部隊だ。以前、奴らと戦ったときもあれに苦しめられた。いったん、引くぞ！」

ハリードの部隊は、いったん後退し、自爆部隊からのダメージを最小限に抑えることに成功した。

一方、リブロフ軍が合流地点に到着しても、神王教団軍はまったく来る気配がなく、リブロフ軍はいらだちを隠せなかった。

リブロフ軍も総崩れとなり、リブロフ軍は本拠地のリブロフへ退却をはじめた。

そのころ、ハリードの元部下の兵士たちは、リブロフで反乱を起こしていた。リブロフに残された少数の守備部隊はゲッシア王朝の元兵士たちによってほぼ全滅させられていた。

「伝令です！リブロフが、ゲッシア王朝の残党に占領されました」

「なんだと・・・もはやこれまでだ、ミカエルに投降するしかない」

神王教団軍はナジュ砂漠へと退却し、リブロフ軍の大半は散り散りに逃げるか、ロアーヌ軍の捕虜となった。

「作戦は成功したな、ハリードよ！」

そのころ、ピドナのルートヴィッヒの元には、伝令が入っていた。

「将軍！リブロフ軍は壊滅しました。神王教団軍も、ナジュ砂漠へと退却した模様です」

「なんだと・・・信じられぬ。作戦は失敗だ・・・くそ、もっとリブロフに力を入れておけばよかった」

「・・・くそ、こうなったら、最後の手段だ、ビューネイ様に泣きつくしかない」

マクシムスは、ビューネイに使者を送った。

「ロアーヌ占領のために、貴軍を進撃させていただけますでしょうか。見返りに、宿命の子を探し出し、捕らえることに全力で協力させていただきます」

ミカエルとハリードの軍は、作戦の成功を受けて、ロアーヌへ帰還するところだった・・・。ところが、予想外の展開が待ち受けていた。

「殿、タフターン山より、多数のモンスターの軍勢が攻め寄せております」

「なんだと・・・今度はビューネイ軍だな。迎え撃つぞ！」

ビューネイ軍は空を飛行しながらロアーヌへ進撃してきた。沼地も平気で飛び越えてくる。

「よし、ここは賭けだが、重装歩兵ではなく、装備の軽い軽装歩兵で一気に沼地を通り抜けて敵軍を叩く」

ロアーヌ軍は、速攻前進を行い、沼地を超えてビューネイ軍と交戦した。しかし、先にリブロフ軍・神王教団軍と戦って疲弊していたこもあり、苦戦を強いられた。

「殿、わが軍の防衛ラインが突破されます！ビューネイ軍の大半は撃破しましたが、一部残党がロアーヌへ侵入する見込みです」

「かくなる上は・・・私が自ら、奴らと戦う！」

「俺も一緒に行くぜ！」

「ハリード、頼む！

ミカエルは、精鋭部隊とハリードを連れて、ロアーヌの城門前に立ちはだかった。

「ロアーヌはこの私が守る！」

ビューネイ軍の残党が次から次へと押し寄せてくる。

ミカエルは、複数の敵に同時に攻撃できる技を何度も繰り出し、ビューネイ兵を100体以上倒した。ハリードも、残像剣を使って、多数のビューネイ兵を倒した。しかし、あまりに数が多すぎる。

「しまった！倒しきれなかったビューネイ兵が、宮殿に向かっている！」

「ファイアクラッカー！」

「残像剣！」

モニカ、ユリアン、エクレアが、宮殿内に侵入したビューネイ兵を完全に仕留めた。

劣勢になったビューネイ兵残党は、タフターン山へと退却していった。

「モニカ、ユリアン、エクレア・・・お前たち・・・本当に感謝する。モニカ、お前の腕を過小評価していたようだ、兄のために、助力してくれて、ありがとう」

「いいえ、お兄様・・・私も、戦えることを認めていただき、ありがたく存じますわ」

ピドナでは、マクシムスが憤激していた。

こうして、ミカエルたち一行は、タフターン山へ攻め入ることにした。
