“Miss Mcleod’s Reel” is a very old tune thought to have come from Scotland. It’s also played a lot in Ireland and in American old-time music as emigrants brought it over to the new-world with them. There, it evolved and now goes under many names such as “Uncle Joe” or “Hop Up Ladies.” A great example of the fascinating game of telephone that happens in traditional music! We saw Aly Bain’s documentary ‘Down Home’ and fell in love with the version he plays with Mike Seeger and Jean Ritchie. We hope you enjoy this ear-worm as much as we do!
