ぽぬぐりっしゅ日記#DAY2

Nov. 12, 2024

I’m feeling sleepy, but before I fall asleep, I’ll jot down what today was like for me. It was nothing special—just another ordinary day.

I woke up in the morning, fell back asleep, then woke up again with only 20 minutes left before I had to leave my nest. I ate acorns for breakfast as fast as I could, placed a leaf on my forehead, pressed my hand stamps together, and POM! I transformed into an ordinary, handsome human in a suit. This is my usual routine, which is typical for tanuki, as we have the magical power to transform, just like in old Japanese stories. You might not know, but there are two kinds of tanuki: ordinary wild tanuki and magical tanuki like me who have this power.

You know, labor is something only humans should do. All tanuki should do is to eat sweets, enjoy good food, and keep their beds warm, don’t you think? Since we’re so cute and adorable, by simply doing these things we can make the same value as a businessman from Goldman Sachs would say it to his suboridinates and makes an even greater contribution than ordinary humans could achieve in a 10-hour labor.

Still, I often leave my cozy ofuton (bed) to go to work. Why? Well, I don’t exactly work; I just want to help wild tanuki in difficult situations. Many tanuki suffer from countless road kills and lose their homes due to human's land development. Our ancestors fought against human expansion with all their magical power, but they were defeated. If you want to know the full story, you should watch “Pom Poko” by Studio Ghibli—you probably couldn’t watch it without shedding a tear. Anyway, times have changed, and now is the time to fight under the rule of law. So, I’ve become a legal trainee at court, aiming to be a pompoko lawyer who can fight not only with stamps and tails but also with law and legal knowledge.

I couldn’t write much more than my morning routine today, but maybe I’ll write something more tomorrow. Good night!
