Welcoming The New Year with Entertainment
On the first day of 2025, I went to see Shiki Theatre's "Wicked." I paid my respects to the company for performing on New Year's Day and was surprised that the show started without any New Year's greetings, as if it were just another performance. Despite it being New Year's, the show was sold out. All about 700 seats were filled. The performance lasted three hours, and while I imagine the stage actors must have been tired, the audience was also quite exhausted. The 20-minute intermission in the middle of the two-part performance felt like an oasis. During the show, I think most people refrained from eating (of course) or even drinking as an implicit rule. Apparently, I drank without hesitation.
Last year, I watched a large-scale musical for the first time, and this year I experienced Shiki Theatre for the first time. I was completely overwhelmed by the incredible vocal power of the actors. It felt like such a luxurious experience to immerse myself in entertainment like that. I definitely want to see the movie version, which will finally be released in Japan this March.
Bye!
