Realizing Cool Presentation Video with ATEM mini PRO
ATEM mini PRO has two keying feature - one upstream key and one down stream key. Both has limited functions, but you can realize cool and bit complicated layout on your presentation real-time video (or just webcasting) utilizing these keying features.
Goal
Realtime / webcasting video with this layout.
Concept
Here is the image of layer for ATEM mini PRO. It can have 3 layers - the base layer, Upstream Key, and the top layer is Downstream Key. We cannot change the layer order - so we should design the layer to fit our final output image.
We can change the size and position of Upstream Key, but we CANNOT change such parameters for Downstream Key, which should have simply full-size and "black color" to be transparent of bellow layers.
Preparation - Downstream Key Image
First, you need to prepare this kind of image with either PNG or JPG format (PNG is preferred)
There are 2 "black" areas, the left one should have same aspect ration with your presentation materials. Now this sample has 16:9, so it sizes 1280 x 720 pixels. Right "black" area is for presenter's view, and you can define your favorite size.
Then, you would need to upload this image to media pool of ATEM mini PRO using ATEM Software Control - Media tab.
Setup the Video Source
Now, you would connect your camera for presentor to Camera-1 input of the ATEM mini PRO, and PC / Mac or any other presentation source to Camera-3. So you would see the multiview screen (in case of ATEM mini PRO) like this;
You may need wide (or super wide) lens to realize this format.
Setup Upstream Key
Now you need to setup Upstream key, as follows - this is for 1280x720 pixels as presentation "left black" area, so you would need to change values to fit the size and position if you change it.
Choose "DVE", and put these values as shown. Uncheck other options, except "borders" - you can add it if needed.
Setup Downstream Key
And here is the setup for Downstream Key.
The essential is to set "Media Player 1" output for both Fill Source and Key Source.
Turn on both Upstream Key and Downstream Key
Now you can see the composite output for both keying.
Here is the panel. Program should be CAM1, Next Transition is On Air and KEY 1 is on. Also DSK1 is On Air.
And here is snapshot of the multiview (in ATEM mini PRO case)
Now you would see the output (a.k.a. Program) like this;
You may need to adjust framing or zooming of your camera for presenter view, in order to fit the "right window"
Extension
If you have one more PC, you can show dynamic graphics content instead of still image which we used here on the integrated media player. You can connect it to Camera-2 or 4, then specify both Fill and Key source of Downstream Key to the input.
Please make sure you should have the "Window" for the contents - presentation and presenter's view - as black area, and you CANNOT use "black" for other area, otherwise the Camera-1 output would be shown.
Conclusion
So even with limited feature of keying, we can realize rich content view just understanding the feature itself.
