Exhibition First Day Report: Behind the Scenes of "Hidden

Nestled in the stylish neighborhood of Daikanyama, my photo exhibition “Hidden” finally opened its doors at Liike, a chic beauty salon. From September 26 to October 29, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the world I’ve created. However, the first day was not without its challenges. One of the displayed pieces fell, and I had to rush to repair and reinforce it. This required several trips back and forth between my apartment and Daikanyama, where I carefully strengthened each piece in the gallery. Though exhausting, I believe these efforts only enhanced the overall presentation.

This exhibition, set in the finely curated atmosphere of a salon, initially led me to unconsciously align my work with its perfection. However, at one point, I decided to deliberately break that harmony. I placed a 2L-sized photograph at a higher, more unconventional spot on the wall, leaving it slightly askew. This subtle act brought out the raw human instinct within the space. "Beauty in imperfection" is one of the themes I hope visitors will discover through this exhibition.

In addition, a preview copy of my new photo book arrived, and I’m thrilled with the result. It’s a book that delves deeper into my core and presents a fresh perspective unlike anything I’ve done before. Visitors can also purchase this new book, as well as limited edition tote bags, at the exhibition. Despite the daily challenges, I am filled with hope that the emotions and stories behind this exhibition will resonate with many.

I've received messages from many people I invited through DM, expressing their excitement to visit. Notably, prominent photographers like Kayo Ume and Kotori Kawashima have also responded, showing their support. I'm especially looking forward to reconnecting with old friends, as this exhibition is not just about the art, but also about the relationships and conversations it fosters.

I feel strongly that we need to host a reception party. Viewing the works is important, but so is creating a space for meaningful interaction. A gathering with drinks, where people can discuss the art in a relaxed atmosphere, is an essential part of what this exhibition is meant to be.

I'm putting all my heart into this exhibition. Please come and experience “Hidden” for yourself.
