Day 455: Puerta del Sol
I really enjoyed a novel serialized daily on Nikkei Newspaper.
The title comes from a public square of Madrid which saw the tragedies of Spanish civil war in late 19th century.
Some may say that, instead of being a serious drama, the play was completely maudlin.
To me, no, it was such a great love romance during the Spanish Civil War, which delivers tragic messages of divisions in a country, nations, political ideas and human being.
Word of the day
maudlin: overly sentimental; emotionally silly
Quote of the day
“I sleep on my face, and then it does not frighten anybody in the morning.”
― Ernest Hemingway, The Fifth Column and Four Stories of the Spanish Civil War
