WSJ Minute Briefing - Midterm Race for Control of Congress Remains Tight

Here's your morning brief for Wednesday, November 9th. I'm Keith Collins for the Wall Street journal.

In the US midterm elections, Republicans remained favored to take control of the house, so the results fell short of the substantial gains and Democratic territory, some in the GOP had anticipated. The Republicans path to taking control of the Senate narrowed after Democrats flipped the seat in Pennsylvania, according to the Associated press. To claim the majority the GOP will need to win, two of three close Senate contests in Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia. Governor's races resulted in few changes of control as the Democrats held off challengers in several States, including Wisconsin, New York, and Michigan, while GOP incumbents in Florida, and Texas won decisively, according to AP. And voters in California, Michigan, and Vermont pass measures guaranteeing abortion access.

We’re exclusively reporting that the world's largest contract chip maker is preparing a multi-billion dollar investment to expand its factory operations in Arizona. Sources say Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, plans to announce in the coming months that it will build a cutting-edge chip plant, beside another factory it committed to in 2020. This comes after Washington agreed to provide chip makers with lucrative grants to bring advanced manufacturing back to US soil. In a statement to the journal, TSMC says it hasn't made a final decision whether it will add more advanced chip capacity at its Arizona site.

Elon Musk sold almost 4 billion dollars in Tesla stock after closing his deal to buy Twitter for 44 billion dollars. That's according to new regulatory disclosures, which show the Tesla CEO sold 191/2 million shares of the electric vehicle maker in recent days. Musk has sold Tesla shares valued at more than 19 billion dollars this year.
