Situation in Ukraine
It has been 698 days since Russia invaded Kyiv.
First,
general things.
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,
the Russian military losses are
830 soldiers
11 tanks
23 armored combat vehicles
21 artillery pieces
2 air defense systems
25 drones
1 cruise missile
34 other vehicles.
Across the entire front,
80 ground battles were reported.
And the ratio of the number of losses of Ukrainian equipment to Russian losses,
which can be visually confirmed,
is 1 to 1.4 compared to the number of losses on the Ukrainian side.
The losses on the Russian side are mostly infantry fighting vehicles,
tanks and military trucks,
which form a configuration on the front lines.
In contrast,
the Ukrainian losses are mostly SUVs and armored fighting vehicles.
Here is a short news report on the situation in Ukraine.
You can also use YouTube's chapter feature to watch as needed.
First.
As we reported at the beginning of yesterday's video,
the Ukrainian military has carried out three successful drone strikes on key facilities on Russian territory in the last four days,
hitting Russian oil and gas infrastructure one by one.
First,
a Rosneft oil storage facility exploded last Thursday and Friday,
followed by a drone strike on the terminal of the Russian oil and gas giant Novatek on Sunday,
and then a drone strike on the terminal at the port of Leningrad,
which resulted in at least three explosions and a fire.
Incidentally,
as a bit of trivia,
Leningrad and St.
Petersburg are the same place,
and although the name was changed from Leningrad to St.
Petersburg by referendum when the Soviet Union collapsed,
Leningrad was famous as an industrial city and is still in use.
This led to a fire at the Ust-Luga port terminal and the nearby Novatek oil refinery,
crippling the functioning of Russia's largest port and halting the production of naphtha,
kerosene,
diesel fuel,
and heavy fuel oil.
The successful drone strike 900 kilometers in a straight line from the Ukrainian border means that air defenses don't work on Russian territory,
and St.
Petersburg is also President Putin's hometown,
and this Novatek company is owned by President Putin's friend,
billionaire Tymchenko,
who is a shareholder in Novatek is also known as a company in which Putin's friend and billionaire Tymchenko is a shareholder,
sending a strong message from Ukraine.
The Bild notes that in addition to attempts to remove Russian troops from Russian-occupied territory,
the Ukrainian military has shifted its focus to destroying infrastructure on Russian territory through drone strikes.
Second.
Former President Trump praised Hungary's President Orban,
who is said to be close to Russia.
In a speech at a campaign rally in Manchester,
New Hampshire,
President Trump said of Prime Minister Orban,
"Some people don't like him because he's too strong.
But it's great to have a strong man leading the country," and called him "a great man.
Is he finally not hiding it anymore?
Third.
The Telegraph reported how the Ukrainian military is building 1,000 kilometers of new concrete trenches and underground command posts.
The defensive lines being built are lined with reinforced barbed wire,
obstacles called "dragon's teeth" and anti-tank bunkers,
with fortifications spaced less than 1.6 kilometers apart,
modeled on the Slovikin line built by Russia,
but with added flexibility in case they are removed in the near future and attack Russian-occupied territory.
According to experts,
the Ukrainian military plans to replenish its forces this year and rebuild them next year,
President Zelensky ordered the construction of fortifications at the end of last year and is reinforcing them with multiple layers of positions accordingly.
Now,
here is the war situation in the various regions.
I will tell you where the war situation is changing.
Northeast: Luhansk province
Eastern part,
towards Bakhmut
We will report on the war situation on the Svatove-Kreminna line from Halkiu and Kupyansk,
and from the area around Siversk to Bakhmut.
In this area the Russians carried out 21 attacks from Shinkivka to Tabayivka,
6 in the area of Terny,
7 in the Serebryansky forest and Bilohorivka,
and 8 in the direction of Bakhmut.
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian military did not disclose the location,
but released a video showing the destruction of the Russian military's Thor air defense system by a Polish drone.
In the video,
a vehicle driving on snow can be seen being monitored by the drone.
The air defense system was attacked by a drone that was supposed to shoot it down,
which clearly shows the decline of the Russian military's air defense capabilities and its operational capacity.
Kupyansk area
We reported in yesterday's video that Russian forces captured Kurovmalne,
but it is possible that Russian forces are advancing further in the area around Kurovmalne.
According to several unconfirmed reports,
Russian troops have launched an offensive north of Kurovmalne towards Tabayivka and have reached the H26 highway on the SNS,
which is close to Russia.
There are also reports that Russian forces have launched an offensive south of Klovmalne and are advancing towards Berestove.
Both of these reports have yet to be confirmed,
and we will update the battle map as soon as we receive confirmation.
Ukrainian forces are defending Tabayivka and Berestove.
Meanwhile,
Ukrainian military spokesman Ficho mentioned the occupation of Khlovmalne,
saying,
"Khlovmalne has 45 houses,
The last five remaining houses in the settlement were destroyed by the Russians,
so we moved to new defensive positions to avoid unnecessary losses," he said.
Otherwise,
there was no change in the battle map on the Svatove-Kreminna line or in the direction of Bakhmut,
with the Russians increasing the number of attacks,
but the Ukrainian army defending itself.
Southeast,
Donetsk region.
The weather in Avdiivka is cloudy.
The minimum temperature is -11 degrees Celsius and the maximum is -4 degrees Celsius.
Today's weather forecast is for hail.
The weather is expected to improve for a while with colder temperatures.
Here is an update on the situation in Avdiivka,
Marinka and Vuhledar.
Avdiivka area
The Russians launched 11 attacks in the Avdiivka area and 12 attacks on Pervomaiske and Neveleske.
Ukrainian military spokesman Shtupun said,
"The Russian army is concentrating 40,000 personnel in this area," which is the same number of personnel as in October,
when the attack on Avdiivka began.
1.
In Avdiivka,
Russian troops have finally entered the city.
According to the found video,
Russian troops with infantry advanced to a residential area south of the city and were partially repelled by Ukrainian troops.
The video shown is from the Ukrainian side,
where the Russian assault force is observed before the attack.
Another localized video shows that Russian forces have advanced beyond this point and may be based on units that survived the Ukrainian drone attack.
This location is inside the Ukrainian army's defensive line and shows the first time the Russians have entered the Avdiivka fortress,
which they have attacked and failed to defeat for more than eight years.
The battle map has been updated to show that the Russians have captured half of this residential area,
and the scope of the disputed territory has been expanded to include residential areas to the south.
The battle map remains unchanged for the other attack axes in Vodzhane,
Pervomaiske,
and Neveleske.
The Marinka Sector
The Russians launched six attacks on Heolyivka,
Marinka,
and Novomihailivka,
but were repulsed by Ukrainian forces,
leaving the battle map unchanged.
South,
Zaporizhia Province.
In this sector,
the Russians made an attack west of Belbove,
but there was no information on any change in the battle map.
Rear Areas
1.
An explosion was reported in Smolensk,
300 km north of the Ukrainian border.
Video footage shows the night sky glowing orange.
The Russian Defense Ministry claims that air defenses in Tula,
Oryol,
and Smolensk were activated and that five drones were destroyed.
So far there have been no reports of damage.
Second.
As we reported in the first of these videos yesterday,
in Tula,
south of Moscow,
there was an attack on a factory that manufactures self-propelled artillery and air defense systems,
resulting in a large explosion,
and this attack was reportedly successful.
Tula is also about 300 km from the Ukrainian border.
Third.
In our video of January 15,
we reported that a Russian A-50 early warning aircraft was shot down in the Sea of Azov and an IL-22 command and control aircraft was attacked,
killing the pilot,
Major Klimov.
We learned from a friend's social networking site that Major Klimov,
a senior test pilot,
was killed in flight and his co-pilot landed at a nearby airport with injuries.
It is also reported that a replacement A-50 began a patrol flight in the Azov Sea airspace as a result of the incident.
According to the Russian side,
the A-50 was shot down by friendly fire,
but for some reason it returned and is now patrolling over Sochi,
indicating that the unprecedented downing of an early warning aircraft has had a significant impact on the Russian military.
South,
Kherson province.
In this area the Russians attacked Krinky six times,
but the Ukrainians maintained their bridgehead and the situation remained unchanged.
Others
In Russia,
property was confiscated from soldiers who disobeyed orders or deserted.
Confiscation of property is already provided for in the Russian Criminal Code and can be done at the discretion of the court,
but will be strengthened in the future.
The speaker of the State Duma,
Russia's lower house of parliament,
Volodin,
plans to impose severe sanctions on "miscreants" who,
in addition to disobedience and desertion,
have revived Nazism and discredited the military,
and plans to amend the Criminal Code this spring to allow courts to confiscate property more clearly.
That's all for today.
Thank you for watching.
