3D Scanning Studio Iris Introduction

The 3D scanning studio "iris," which was previously located in Yoyogi, has been relocated to the "Toho Studio" in Seijo Gakuen and is about to reach its third year since the move. Since relocating, we have been assisting with various projects including Toho movie productions, Netflix works, commercials, dramas, and more.


The location of the 3D scanning studio iris is on the 1st floor of Toho Studio's "Post Production Center 2."

■ Comprehensive Auxiliary Facilities

For those using the 3D scanning studio, you can utilize the facilities of Toho Studios. "dressing room", "costume rooms", "makeup rooms", "conference rooms" and other abundant facilities of Toho Studios are available for your use, making your shooting preparations more comfortable. *Prior reservation is required.

If you are shooting inside Toho Studios, you can walk to the 3D scanning studio, which is highly praised for making it much easier to schedule and coordinate.

■ Cameras Upgraded to 170 Units, Improved Accuracy!

With the relocation, the system design was significantly reviewed, resulting in a substantial improvement in accuracy.
Our studio has achieved the same quality as 3D scanning studios in Europe and the United States in order to meet the demands of our clients. The studio has a high ceiling and all black walls, so we have renovated it to be an ideal cross-polarization studio specification (lighting that cuts reflections). A maximum of 16k Albedo MAP-quality textures can be obtained.

We have already received endorsements from overseas renowned VFX studios as a 3D scan studio of the same grade as overseas standards, starting with Netflix's Yu Yu Hakusho.


■ high-quality head models for FACS

It is possible to scan high-quality head models for FACS. If you plan to utilize the FACS workflow, thorough coordination with the CGI finishing team is required.
Familiarity with FACS expressions in advance is necessary for a smooth shooting process.
As we always conduct full-body scans, we can capture detailed facial expressions, including the torso, neck muscles, back of the head, and ears. This makes it a useful resource for complex and accurate FACS materials.

The Facial Action Coding System (FACS) is comprised of at least 40 expressions, but we also support 3D scanning for simpler blend shapes. We scan only the expressions necessary for the project, such as happiness, anger, sorrow, and pleasure, as well as the pronunciations of "a, i, u, e, o," and convert them into blend shapes.

■ Supports ACES Color Calibration

Recently, we have seen an increase in requests for calibrated DiffuseMAPs for our 3D scan and photogrammetry projects.

Currently, as an optional operation, it is possible to calibrate based on the Macbeth Color Chart and export DiffuseMAP in sRGB (linear gamma), ACES AP1 (ACEScg), and ACES AP0 suitable for VFX work in ACES. Calibration is more accurate than nuke's mmColorTarget and MatchGrade.

■ Tone Cancellation
We have created our own DCP camera profile to remove as much of the camera manufacturer's bias (tone) as possible during RAW development.

■ Supports [Three-Point Lighting] Reference Photography

With this renewal, we now support 1 to 3-point lighting reference photography, essential for high-precision digital double CGI work.

■ Remote Compatible 3D Scan Studio

The shooting can be broadcast via Zoom or Google Meet, allowing for remote direction and checks. Smooth communication is possible with conversation microphones and speakers. The shooting materials can be sent immediately via BOX or Google Chat, etc.

It is possible to broadcast the situation of the scan rig with a 4-camera multi-setup plus a camera for conversation.
