シャーロックホームズ氏の人名録に倣って、自分の書いた記事の索引を作ります
「そこの棚から人名録を取ってくれないか？」
ホームズ は椅子に深々ともたれると、 葉巻から煙をもうもうとあげながら、自分の作った索引帳を物憂げにめくった。
「Ｍの項はすばらしい充実ぶりだな。モリアーティだけでも圧倒されるのに、毒殺魔のモーガンや、思い出すだけで不愉快なメリデュー、さらにチャリング・クロス駅の待合室で僕の左の犬歯をへし折ったマシューズもいる。そのあとにご登場あそばすのが今夜のわれらが友人だ。」
ホームズが人名録を渡してよこしたので、モランのところを読み上げた。

ホームズ氏は几帳面な人です。『シャーロック・ホームズの冒険 』の冒頭の短編『ボヘミアの醜聞』において、こう書かれています。
「ホームズは長い間、様々な人物とことがらに関するメモを整理して、索引を作っている。だから、どんな問題や人物が出てきても、すぐにそれに関する情報がわかるのだった。今回も、あるユダヤ教ラビと、深海魚について論文を書いた海軍参謀中佐の略歴との間に、彼女（アイリーン・アドラー）の略歴を見つけることができた。」
ですので、彼の作った人名録（ index of biographies）には、犯罪者のみならず、多くの一般人も含まれていました。
私もこれまでに結構な数の記事を書いたので、索引帳を作っていこうと思います。これまでに書いた記事から、キーワードを抜き出して、ここの総索引magazineに追加していくつもりです。
紙の百科事典がよく売れていた頃、百科事典の別巻として、総索引が付いていました。当時は、何のためにあるのかわかりませんでした。しかし、ある単語を参照しているページが複数あったら、その単語の意味合いもより深く理解できるし、別の発想もわくかもしれません。

He handed over the book, and I read: "Moran, Sebastian, Colonel. Unemployed.

Mr. Holmes is a well-mannered person. In the short story "A Scandal in Bohemia" at the beginning of "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", it is written as follows.
"Kindly look her up in my index, Doctor," murmured Holmes without opening his eyes. For many years he had adopted a system of docketing all paragraphs concerning men and things, so that it was difficult to name a subject or a person on which he could not at once furnish information. In this case I found her biography sandwiched in between that of a Hebrew rabbi and that of a staff-commander who had written a monograph upon the deep-sea fishes.
Therefore, his index of biographies included not only criminals but also many ordinary people.
I've written quite a few articles so far, so I'm going to make an index book. I will extract keywords from the articles I have written so far and add them to the general index magazine here.
When paper encyclopedias were selling well, there was a general index attached as a separate volume to the encyclopedia. At the time, I did not know what it was for. However, if there were multiple pages referring to a certain word, you would be able to understand the meaning and background of that word more deeply, and you might even get other ideas.
