頼みもしないのに犯行状況を再現してくれるNHKのニュース
夜７時にご飯を食べながら、ＮＨＫのニュースを見ていたら、陸上自衛隊の候補生が同僚と上司を銃撃した事件の状況を、推理ドラマのように説明していた。
過去にも書いたが、ＮＨＫはなぜこんな情報をニュースで流すのだろうか？
ＮＨＫの調査報告書によると、２０１７年から２０１９年までの３年間の、NHKの１９時のニュースの年齢別視聴率は、下の表のようだった。
２０１９年のサンプル数は、 2,357人で、視聴率 1％あたりの推定視聴者数は，全国で約118 万人だという。
なお、２０２２年にも全国個人視聴率調査は行われているが、調査方法を変えたので、このような表は作れないそうだ。過去のデータとの連続性を破棄するなんて、不思議なことである。
この表によると、６０歳代よりも若い世代の視聴率は一桁である。しかも、２０１９年まで、視聴率自体が減少し続けている。ただし、２０２２年の調査では、NHK ニュース７の全体視聴率は12.4%だった。『あの病気』やロシアの仕掛けた戦争の影響があったのかもしれない。
２０１９年までの３年間にニュースの視聴率が減った原因については、この報告書では触れられていない。
ＮＨＫのニュース番組が、犯行状況を事細かく再現するのは、視聴率を上げるためだろうか？それは、視聴者が望んでいることだろうか？
世の中で起きていることへの無関心でいることはまずいと思うが、犯行現場の状況なんて余分な情報だ。
同僚（小学生の女児をもつ母親）は、かつて子どもをめぐる連日の事件報道に心を痛め、「なんとかしてこういう報道を制限できないものか」と涙目で訴えていた。
毎日、気分を害するニュースばかり見ていると、明日を生きる気力も萎えてしまいそうだ。ひどいことが起きているのは事実だが、伝え方を工夫することはできるだろう。ＮＨＫは、どのような形式のニュース番組がよいか、視聴者にアンケートを取ってほしい。
現在、ＮＨＫのＢＳニュースは１０分程度で、海外情報を含めて簡潔に報道している。私としては、地上波のニュースもこのような形式にしてもらえばいいと思う。
なお、ニュース番組を見ない人が増えているのは、日本だけではない。
「最近、自分があえてニュースを避けようとしていると思うか」との問いに対して、１７年から２２年への５年の推移で見ると、ブラジルは２７％から５４％に、英国は２４％から４６％へ、そして日本でも６％から１４％へと、多くの国で一様に数字を伸ばしている。
平均で見ても、１７年に２９％だったものが、２２年には３８％へと上昇している。
英国のジャーナリズム研究機関であるロイタージャーナリズム研究所は、この現象に「選択的ニュース回避」という定義を与えている。つまり、意識的にニュースを避けている人々が各国で増えているのというのだ。
この記事が取り上げている、ロイタージャーナリズム研究所の調査結果は、ここで見ることができる。サンプル数は全世界で 93,432 人、日本は2,015人である。WEB 調査のため、日本ならびに海外でもネットユーザーが対象となっており、調査の実施時期は、ロシアによるウクライナ侵攻前だった。
ニュースを避ける理由は、「政治や新型コロナウイルスなどの扱いが多すぎる（４３％）」「気分に悪影響がある（３６％）」、さらに「ニュースに疲れ果てている（２９％）」「ニュースは信頼できない／偏向している（２９％）」「避けたい論争を引き起こす（１７％）」「情報に対してできることが何もない（１６％）」となっている。
また、メディアごとのニュースへの信頼性調査結果も興味深い。
調査では、新聞、テレビ、雑誌、インターネットメディアから１５社を選び、それぞれが提供するニュースをどの程度信頼するか尋ねた。テレビ局では ＮＨＫが ５７％、日本テレビとその系列局が５２％、新聞社では日経経済新聞が５２％、地方紙が５１％などとなっている。 信頼できないと答えた人の割合が最も少ないのは日本経済新聞社の 10％だった。
NHKは最も信頼されているが、その理由に関するアンケート調査は見つからなかった。
地震や台風などの災害時に、NHKを頼りにする視聴者が多いのだろうと、私は推測する。
NHK news that reproduces the crime situation even though I do not ask
When I was watching NHK news while eating dinner at 7:00 p.m., I saw an explanation like a detective drama about the incident in which a cadet of the Ground Self-Defense Force shot his colleague and his boss.
As I wrote in the past, why does NHK broadcast such information in the news?
According to NHK's research report, the audience ratings for NHK's 19:00 news for the three years from 2017 to 2019 were as shown in the table below. The number of samples in 2019 was 2,357, and the estimated number of viewers per 1% of the audience rating is about 1.18 million nationwide. In addition, although a nationwide individual audience rating survey is being conducted in 2022, the survey method has been changed, so such a table is not created. It is a strange thing to discard continuity with past data.
According to this table, viewer ratings for people younger than 60 are in the single digits. Moreover, the audience rating itself continues to decrease until 2019. However, in the 2022 survey, the overall audience rating of NHK News 7 was 12.4%. It may have been the influence of "that disease" or the war set up by Russia.
The report did not address the reasons for the drop in news viewership over the three years to 2019. Is it because NHK's news program reproduces the details of the crime scene in order to increase the audience rating? Is that what the audience wants?
I think it's bad to be indifferent to what's going on in the world, but the situation at the crime scene is superfluous information.
A colleague (a mother of an elementary school girl) was once distressed by the daily reports of incidents involving children, and said with teary eyes, "Isn't there some way to limit this kind of reporting?"
If you only see news that makes you feel bad every day, it seems that you will lose the will to live tomorrow. It's true that terrible things are happening, but the mass media can be creative with how they communicate. I would like NHK to conduct a survey of viewers on what type of news program they prefer.
Currently, NHK's BS news is about 10 minutes long, and it reports concisely, including overseas information. For me, it would be nice if terrestrial news was also in this format.
Japan is not the only country where the number of people who do not watch news programs is increasing.
In response to the question, "Do you think you're daring to avoid the news these days?", looking at the five-year change from 2017 to 2022, Brazil increased from 27% to 54%, and the United Kingdom 24%. % to 46%, and in Japan from 6% to 14%. The average rate rose from 29% in 2017 to 38% in 2022.
The Reuters Institute for Journalism, a British journalism research institute, defines the phenomenon as 'selective news avoidance'. In other words, the number of people who consciously avoid news is increasing in each country.

The number of samples is 93,432, of which 2,015 are from Japan. Internet users in Japan and overseas were targeted for the web survey, and the survey was conducted before Russia invaded Ukraine.
The reasons for avoiding the news were "Too much about politics and the coronavirus (43%)," "It affects my mood (36%)," and "I'm exhausted from the news (29%)." are unreliable/biased (29%), controversial to avoid (17%) and there is nothing I can do with the information (16%).
Also interesting are the results of a survey on the reliability of news by media.
The survey selected 15 media outlets from newspapers, television, magazines and Internet media and asked them how much they trusted the news they provided. Among TV stations, NHK accounts for 57%, Nippon Television and its affiliates account for 52%, and among newspaper companies, Nikkei Keizai Shimbun accounts for 52% and local newspapers account for 51%.
The media with the lowest percentage of people saying they were untrustworthy was Nihon Keizai Shimbun's 10%.
NHK is the most trusted, but I couldn't find any survey on why. I suspect that many viewers rely on NHK during disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons.
