曾子曰、吾聞諸夫子。人未有自致也者。必也親喪乎。

曾子曰(そうしいわ)く、吾諸(われこれ)を夫子(ふうし)に聞(き)けり。人(ひと)未(いま)だ自(みずか)ら致(いた)す者有(ものあ)らず。必(かなら)ずや親(おや)の喪(そう)か、と。
現代語訳 17
曾先生が言われた。「私は先生からこう学んだ。人間が自分で究極まで尽くしてしまうということはまずない。親の死を悲しむ時ぐらいは、そうありたいものだ、と」
英訳 17
The teacher Zeng was said, " I learned this from my teacher. It is unlikely that humans will do their best to the ultimate. It is the one that it wants to be so when the death of parents is grieved."
