Denki Groove is a Japanese band formed in 1989 with a unique musical style centered on techno and electro music, as well as wild performances. The band’s works often satirize the world, and they were a leader of the subculture in the 1990s.
When Sony Records offered the indie group Denki Groove a chance to make their major label debut, Takkyu Ishino, one of the core members of the group, decided that he really wanted to release an indie album.
At that time, Ishino was a fan of Yello, Pop Will Eat Itself, Jesus Jones, etc., but after listening to Public Enemy, he decided to fully adopt rap music in Denki Groove.
Initially, the group produced a song called “JB the Thrasher,” which was a techno version of a thrash metal song, but it was eventually abandoned. However, from this inspiration, the group’s concept at the time became “thrash techno” and was oriented toward punk and digital hardcore of the 1990s
He also introduced influences from groups such as Napalm Death, as well as house and hip-hop, and Ishino said that he was oriented to “a powerful sound, even when using drum machines and music sequencers.
This album, 662 BPM BY DG, contains indie versions of “Denki Biri Biri,” “WE ARE,” and “N.O.,” which would be played throughout the rest of the album.
