映画制作日記 #14 「愛すべき勝手な野郎ども」 | Production Notes #14 "Lovable Selfish Bastards"

My film crew is always selfish. They get excited and proceed as they please. They go to shoot the actual scenery (the scenery in the film) without permission, and they decide the costumes without permission. He would say, "I'm going to the shooting," "Oh, yeah. A few hours later, "Did you get it? "Of course I got it". Of course, they didn't show me the footage. The actors would also give their opinions and keep making changes. In a previous film, several scenes were shot without me, the director, present. I sometimes saw the film for the first time in the material prepared for editing. When the crew saw the finished film, they would give a curt comment, "It's good. When I hear the curt comments of these lovable, selfish bastards, I think, "It's done! I'm done!" I think the director's job is to be pleased with what the selfish staff and selfish actors do. To be continued.

僕の映画スタッフはいつも勝手である。勝手に盛り上がり、勝手に進める。勝手に実景(映画の中の風景)の撮影に行き、勝手に衣装を決めてくる。「撮影に行きまーす」「あ、そう。」数時間後「撮れた？」「もちろん撮れましたよ。」もちろん撮った映像は見せてもらえない。脚本だって三好が書いてきたやつをみんなでコテンパンに意見を言ってどんどん直す。役者も意見を言ってどんどん直す。以前の映画でも数シーン、監督である僕が不在のまま撮影が続行された。編集に用意された素材で初めて見たりする。そうして出来上がる映画をスタッフは見て「いいっすね」とそっけない感想を言う。僕はこの百戦錬磨の愛すべき勝手な野郎どものそっけない感想を聞いて「完成！」とする。監督の仕事はこうして勝手なスタッフと勝手な役者たちのすることを喜ぶことだと思っている。つづく。
