Micro Aggression

Today let's talk about micro aggression. Micro aggression is usually hateful behaviours triggered from subconscious biases. Even though xenophobia, sexism, and classism could be condemned at the superficial level, conventions of social practices plant seeds of stereotypes. Some examples of micro aggression could be...

"Little miss know-it-all! Why are you talking about politics??" (Why shouldn't women talk about politics? The assumption here is that women are too dumb to discuss politics.)

"You're a boy! Toughen up!" (Why shouldn't boys be naive and sensitive? Toxic masculinity has detrimental consequences.)

Often, we tend to think society as a safe place protected from hatred. We expect laws to prevent extremists from spitting their blood. Reality is, because we believe so deeply that we are living in a hate-free society, we are blinded from the stereotypes that personally affect us. It is important that we all become conscious of the possibility of our erring from misunderstandings and thrive to avoid micro aggressions.
