Jimmy Carter Civic Center

[All the photos (including the header and two other artworks by Andy Warhol) except for those I took on 31st May 2014 in Kōnu Town, Miyoshi City, are via Pinterest.]

In order to pay a visit to Susa Shrine (須佐神社) located in Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture (広島県三次市), I took an overnight express bus "Iwami Express" by Chūgoku JR Bus at Shinjuku Station on 30th May 2014, and arrived in an early morning on 31st May 2014 at Miyoshi Station of JR Geibi Line (JR芸備線). Taking a local train 1727D of JR Fukuen Line (JR福塩線), I got off at Kōnu Station (甲奴駅), and I came across what I never expected, well at first I did not believe what I read... Jimmy Carter Street.

This is how I learn about Jimmy Carter Civic Center:

The Jimmy Carter Civic Center was completed in May 1994, and its construction was inspired by the temple bell at Shōganji Temple (正願寺) in Kōnu Town.

The temple bell of Shōganji Temple was cast in 1820 and offered to the Kure Naval Arsenal as a material for shells in 1942 during World War II, but was not used as a weapon until the end of the war. After the war, the temple bell followed a strange fate and left Japan for the United Kingdom... The Japanese community in Atlanta celebrated the groundbreaking of the Carter Presidential Library in July 1985. In celebration of the construction of the Carter Center, and on the occasion of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Japanese Garden, a Japanese temple bell was donated to former President Carter…
