Love and hurt and carrying on

The highest form of love is consideration. Love is when we think about how our actions and decisions, past and present, might affect each other while paying attention to detail.

This actually happened as long as you were here, but since you left and we met on holiday, everything changed.

I believe you've failed me in this regard. But, perhaps that's just who you are and you don't agree with my assumption because you never truly loved me and felt no obligation toward me, let alone consider my feelings. It is my fault I feel this way because I had high expectations and because I always held you in high esteem, maybe contrary to what you really felt about me. Maybe I pressured you and expected a more mature response from you.

The reason that I find myself in this situation now is because you presented yourself so well and you made me believe the beautiful things you told me about how I made you feel. But ultimately, where was your consideration? There was none because you didn’t feel the need to give me anything in return. You simply closed the book and carried on with your life.

In a bond like we had (and I’m not just talking about a romantic relationship), how much I cared is reflected on how much I considered you in my life. I never stopped thinking about your well-being and always sought ways to comfort you. I went out of my way, with special effort, to support you consistently. This is love. Do you recognise it?
