本作の舞台『カナリー・ワーフ』とは？

この舞台のモチーフとなったのが、『カナリー・ワーフ』という大規模な金融都市だとされています。この都市はロンドンの東部に位置する川沿いの街で、19世紀初頭から第二次世界大戦でドイツ軍に空襲される1940年代まで、商業埠頭として栄えていました。戦後復興を果たすものの、輸送手段の近代化の波についていけず、1980年代に港としての役目を終えることとなりました。
