2003年リリースの6thアルバムに して、『Kid A』『Amnesiac』で展開されたエレクトロニック・サウンドへのアプローチを経て、ギターロックへの回帰を果たした集大成的作品。2001年の9.11以降、対テロ戦争のお題目の元でナショナリズムを用いた煽動や政府機関による情報操作が横行し、その状況に対する疑心や怒りに駆り立てられたトム・ヨークが用意した3枚のデモアルバムを元に、バンドのセッションで完成させるという、極めてオーソドックスな制作のプロセスを辿ったアルバムであり、そのプロセスについてトム・ヨークは「過去最もストレスがなかったレコー ディング」だったと振り返っている。「2+ 2=5」「Goto Sleep.」「There there.」他全14曲を収録。

アレックス・ラターフォード監督による「Go to Sleep」のCGIアニメーションミュージックビデオが公開された。[要出典]このビデオでは、歌手のトム・ヨークが公園に座り、ビジネススーツを着た人々が足早に通り過ぎる様子が描かれている。古典的な建物が自然に崩れ、現代的なスタイルで再構築される。
