Born in 1970 in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture. In 1999, he was selected as an astronaut candidate and certified as an astronaut in 2001. In 2010, as a MS participant in the STS-131 mission aboard the Space Shuttle "Deatomo." Responsible for overall work coordination and operation of the ISS robot arm. Together with Astronaut Soichi Noguchi, who is on a long-term stay as part of the ISS 22nd/23rd Expedition Crew, two Japanese astronauts stayed at the same time for the first time, and carried out various collaborative tasks.

1970年千葉県松戸市生まれ。1999年、宇宙飛行士候補者に選抜され、2001年、宇宙飛行士として認定。2010年、スペースシャトル「ディスカバリー号」によるSTS-131ミッションのMSとして参加。物資移送作業全体の取りまとめや、ISSのロボットアームの操作などを担当。ISS第22次/第23次長期滞在クルーとして長期滞在中の野口聡一宇宙飛行士と共に、日本人宇宙飛行士が初めて軌道上に2人同時滞在し、様々な共同作業を実施した。
