ローリング・ストーン誌の読者投票『20世紀のベスト・ソングライター』ではLennon / McCartneyを上回る6位にランクインするなど、圧倒的な人気を誇る彼らが日本で全く人気が出なかったのは何故なんでしょうか。

彼らの一番の人気曲「Crash into me」が、映画「レディ・バード」の劇中で印象的に使用されているので、映画を見た方は何となく知っているかもしれません。

今回取り上げる「mercy」は素朴なメロディと裏腹にメッセージ性の強い曲です。
