【CIMT】Prototype of near-future Imaging Diagnostic Device
About CIMT
Current-induced magnetic tomography (CIMT) is a new technology that measures current distribution inside the body without contact, without attaching electrodes to the body. This device acquires biotomographic images by applying an electric field to the body and detecting the induced magnetism with a highly sensitive magnetic sensor.
No radiation is used for measurement, and only the same level of current as a body fat scale is passed, so there is no exposure to radiation. In addition, measurements can be taken while wearing everyday clothes, so biotomographic images can be obtained more easily and safely than with conventional imaging diagnostic devices.
This technology is expected to enable the early detection of not only pneumonia and internal bleeding, but also cancer.
Prototype of CIMT
A prototype of CIMT device was exhibited at Medtec Japan, held from April 17th (Wed) to 19th (Fri), 2024. Tomographic images of an acrylic tank filled with saline solution are acquired in real time, and when an acrylic rod with high electrical resistance is inserted into the saline solution with low electrical resistance, the insertion position of the acrylic rod is mapped.
Tomographic Imaging of the Lungs
Furthermore, we succeeded in taking tomographic images of human lung fields using an 8-channel CIMT prototype, and visualizing the ventilation distribution in the lungs using non-contact magnetic sensing.
The video shows a CIMT image superimposed on a lung image taken with CT. Approximately 60% of the human body is water, which has low electrical resistance compared to air. When he breathe in, the lungs fill with air, increasing the electrical resistance in the chest area.
We are looking for
development partners for CIMT.
