Three things you need to know to claim a disability pension
If you don't meet these three criteria, you will not receive a disability pension even if you file a claim.
(1) You were under 65 years of age when you were first diagnosed.
(2)You meet the payment requirements.
(3) You have a certain level of disability.
◆First step
Check the date of first medical examination.
*Not the date of the first visit to the current hospital, but the date of the first visit to the hospital for that illness/accident, including the previous doctor.
◎Is the date of first visit under 65 years old?
If yes, go to Second Step
If "No," we regret to inform you that you cannot file a claim.
Second step
◎Do you have any unpaid pension insurance premium for the last one year up to the month before the date of your first visit to see a doctor?
If yes, go to the third step.
If no
◎Do you have more than 1/3 of the amount unpaid pension insurance premium from age 20 to two months before the date of your first visit to see a doctor?
※if you came to Japan after 20 then from landing date to two months before the date if your first visit to see a doctor.
If "Yes", go to the third step.
If no
◎Is your first medical examination before the age of 20?
※if you went to see doctor before 20years old don't need to worry unpaid pension insurance premium. because payment starts from 20 years old.
If "Yes", go to the third step.
If "No," we regret to inform you that you cannot claim.
◆Third step
◎Confirmation of disability status
If your disability status on the reference date corresponds to Level 1 or 2 for Kokumin nenkin: Basic Disability Pension or Level 1 or 3 for Disability Kousei nenkin: Pension, you are entitled to receive the pension.

A. Date of certification (1.5 years from the date of first medical examination)
BPost-occupational severity (as of the time of the claim)
The major difference between the two is,
▼ Grade 1
The person is so disabled that he or she can hardly do daily activities without the assistance of others. Those who require hospitalization or home care and whose activities are limited to the bed area are classified as Grade 1.
▼ Grade 2.
The disability is such that daily life is extremely difficult and the person is unable to earn an income through work. For example, a person who can perform light activities such as making light meals in the home but cannot perform more serious activities, or a person who is hospitalized or homebound and whose activities are limited to the hospital or house area is classified as Grade 2.
▼ Grade 3.
The degree to which work is severely restricted or requires significant restrictions on work.
◆Type of pension that can be claimed
The type of pension that can be claimed is determined by the pension system you were enrolled in on the date of your first medical examination.
If you were enrolled in the Kokumin nenkin :National Pension Plan, you are entitled to the Basic Disability Pension.

In principle, a claim cannot be filed until 18 months have passed since the date of first medical examination. For the conditions under which you can file a claim even if 18 months have not passed since the date of first medical examination, please come back another time!
