When can you claim a disavility pension?
There are two timing to claim disability pension annuity.
(1) at 18 months from the date of first medical examination. (Claim on the date of certification)
(2)Now, after the date of certification.
The major difference between (1) and (2) is whether the pension is paid retroactively (claim on the date of certification) or from the month following the month of the claim (claim for subsequent serious illness).
(1) is more economical because you can receive more pension if your disability pension is approved.
For example,
Date of first medical examination June 3, 2008
Date of certification: December 3, 2020
Date of claim October 7, 2022
If the claim is filed on the date of certification, and the pension is Level 2 (annual pension amount: 777,800 yen), and the first payment is due on April 15, 2023
In the case of a request on the date of certification for (1)
The first lump-sum payment will be received for the period from January 2021 to March 2023. Thereafter, payments will be made for two months in even-numbered months.
In the above case,
At the time of the first payment
1,754,103 yen
On the 15th of even-numbered months thereafter
129,632 yen
You will receive
In the case of a claim for post-serious illness
You can receive the first lump-sum payment for the period from November 2022 to March 2023. After that, you will receive the payment for two months at a time on even-numbered months.
In the above case, which is current condition pensiton would start month after claiming month therefore November 2022
At the time of the first payment
324,080 yen
On the 15th of even-numbered months thereafter
129,632 yen
You will receive
If you have a child up to the end of the 18th year of age (or under 20 years of age if you have a disability above a certain level), you will receive an additional amount.
*Addition for one child 223,800 yen
74,600 yen from the third child
From the above
If you are disabled to the extent that you are eligible for a disability pension as of the date of certification, and if you have been to the hospital and can obtain a medical certificate, it is more economical to file a claim on the date of certification.
However, you need to have a doctor write a medical certificate within 3 months of the certification date, so if you have neither visited a hospital nor been hospitalized during that period, you will not be able to claim on the certification date.
