If I join volunteer activities, I will pick up trash and clean up the city in which I live. There are many trash cans and cigarettes littered in my city and I feel sad when I see them on the streets, so I think that we should cooperate with other citizens and clean up the mess to make it possible for anyone to walk along the streets comfortably.

• city はさすがに単位が大きすぎ。そんなに広い範囲をボランティアで扱えない。town か area か、ないしは clean up our neighborhood に直す。

答案）
There are many trash cans and cigarettes littered in my city and I feel sad when I see them on the streets, so I think that we should cooperate with other citizens and clean up the mess to make it possible for anyone to walk along the streets comfortably.

添削）

• １文が長すぎる。等位接続詞の and と so を使って１文にまとめた意味はあるの？

• trash cans は empty cans のほうがいい。なぜなら、trash と littered の意味が被っているから。

• andの前後で１文にまとめられる。すなわち、I feel sad about many empty cans and cigarets littered on the streets. にまとめる。英作文の答えは簡潔に書く。（ちなみに、in my city は不要。なぜなら、streets には定冠詞のtheがついており、その前の文で「自分の住んでいる町」の話をしているから、the streets が「（自分の住んでいる町の）通り」を指すことは明らか。）

• anyoneは「いるかわからないけど、もしいたら」というニュアンスを含意する。通りを渡る人は存在するので、everyone に直す。

• to make it possible for anyone to walk along the streets comfortably は英作文で書かないほうがいい英語。一般に、「目的」を表すには ①to不定詞 か ②so that S’ 助動詞 V’ という接続表現が使えるが、動作主が主節の主語と一致する場合は①、一致しない場合は②を用いる（すなわち、意味上の主語を表す形のto不定詞 for A to do を「目的」を表すために使わない）。anyone を everyone に直すのと合わせて、so that everyone can walk along the streets comfortably とする。
