New Theory of “Hylozoismus” in the Near Future/ for AI & Quantum mechanics
“All things are full of gods, and a magnet is alive because it moves iron,” said Thales (Aristotle, “De Anima”, A2.405a 19, A5.411a7).
The “Hylozoismus (hylozoism)” theory that all things have life was common knowledge in ancient times.
According to the progressive view of history, or rather, according to a certain type of modern thought, this is an old-fashioned “view of the world” that must be overcome/negated.
Is that really the case?
Nowadays, there is an AI boom. It will be a quantum mechanics boom.
I think the limit of the Chat GPT boom is independence and autonomy of thought, and in other words, the threshold that must be crossed to reach “strong AI” is a world of difference between heaven and earth.
Quantum mechanics, which has revealed that “information” is the decisive keyword, maintains its strengths of mathematics, models, logical consistency, and rationality, while creating the “final theory” that is the basic equation of the “world/universe”. In order to reach this goal, I think the threshold that must be crossed is as large as the difference between heaven and earth.
Looking at it from a different perspective, it seems that the ancient theory of “Hylozoismus” easily crossed this world-wide threshold. From the perspective of humankind's “progress”, the theory of antiquity activity was probably the moment when humanity achieved a revolutionary paradigm shift.
In most intellectual history, human history, and history, “Hylozoismus” is only mentioned on the first page with derision, as if it were an episode, but cutting-edge science has not gone beyond this in any way, and is even reconsidering it. I believe that there is a hint to transcending the aforementioned threshold in reconstructing a new theory of the near future based on this “Hylozoismus”. What does ancient science have that cutting-edge science doesn't? It's just “holistic”. With the pride of cutting-edge science, we must shift the paradigm to a new “holistic” approach that transcends ancient times.
This would be to overcome the limits of language, that is, the limits of logic, rationality, mathematics, and models.
I say this knowing that it is a kind of self-contradiction. The essence of language lies in its “arbitraire”,”linearity” and “articulation”. ”Language” is shackling the inherent flexibility of human thought to such an extent. Human being can only take the next step by overcoming the limitations of the language.
yes. The keyword is “language”. It is “language” and “information”, including mathematical “language”.
Acquiring a holistic approach to “language” and “information”... This in itself is a kind of “language contradiction”, but I think we have no choice but to start by solving this “aporia” of this paradox. I think we need a kind of "holistic system", an episteme, which is a system of mathematics, logic, language, and information that can handle the “whole” in the true sense of the word.
