How we started Media "First time" from scratch
A phone call during lockdown
Stories of celebrities and elites abound.
But how do we want to be?
What if the key to answer this question
simply lies in the life of your unsung neighbour,
or someone on the other side of the planet?
What if we could all inspire each other
by showing a little courage and sharing the moment?
One summer day 2020, we had a casual catch-up call. The conversation drifted from our usual mutterings over the pandemic to our life trajectory.
Our curiosity about life grew bigger and bigger as we grew up, without a clue where it would lead us. Nevertheless, our pursuit of knowledge and experience was hindered by lack of like-minded people and suitable role models.
Now, we’ve learned that the world is much more than what we have experienced, as we encountered various values, stimulation and emotions.
But life didn’t get any easier with these discoveries; on the contrary, we found ourselves ever more wired in different - and often conflicting - elements, such as a career, dream, identity, relationship, responsibility and so on. Hold on, we didn’t know life was going to be so full of struggle! And this is only natural, for we have limited opportunity to learn the diverse ways of life. Most schools don’t teach us how to live, and the only stories that we can immediately refer to are those of our relatives’, friends’, or public figures’. As the pandemic made the act of meeting people significantly harder, we consider that this is ever more relevant.
How can we explore the possibility of life?
We think there are two ways. First, by challenging yourself. Second, by knowing how other people live.
Then, why not mix them together? Let’s create a space that connects various lives by highlighting their “first challenges”! This is how First times came into life, our very first media project.
Our missions
Any first time in life is beautiful, however trivial or embarrassing it may seem. Whether you are a baby, a pensioner, a job-seeker, a homeless, or an expert, the moment you try something for the first time, you look a little more brighter than before.
Every challenge has a story. We want to embrace all the challenges, and tailor them into an inspirational story.
The biggest hurdle in attempting something is to find a reason to do so.
We want to be the source of motives.
We encourage everyone who wants to try something new, and share the moments. Their first times will encourage someone else to step forward. We aim to produce such connections of people.
Our contents
With these missions in mind, we will provide two types of contents- Interviews and Challenges.
*And we are looking for participants in both of them!
Interviews with various experts about their first experiences in respective areas. We aim to explore hints of lives from the well-experienced people.
e.g. bilboquet master, school teacher, film producer, professional athlete, gardener
Features people - from age 0 to 100, from various backgrounds and ages - that are going through (or just went through) a first experience.
e.g. (baby’s) first steps, trying a new look, eating something new, learning a new language
Last Message
This is our very first attempt to make a public project.
With much uncertainty and a tinge of embarrassment, we have managed to mold it into a substance.
And we look forward to having many people onboard our journey.
We hope that First times will cheer up everyone involved and create a synergy of hope for the future.
