AMERICANAH 2

Since my professor gave me this book, it becomes the most favorite book of all time!

This book starts off with Ifemelu, a Nigerian girl who goes back to her home country from the United States. When she is in college, she decides to head to the West and starts her academic life as a transfer student. She had a peaceful life with her boyfriend, called Obinze, in Nigeria, but, later, a lot of culture shock in the United States destroys her successful life to suffering. She has been through many troubles and starts to think about what it is to be a black person in the states. I see a lot of moments of how this protagonist struggles with many harsh situations, such as racism.

The things that resonate with me the most are that she transfers to a university in Maryland and majors in communication which all the conditions are the same as me. I thought that this author is writing about me. Also, Ifemelu was born and raised in Nigeria, so the people around her are the same race as her. Since they all share the same race in Nigeria, they feel comfortable with each other. I can relate to Ifemelu because, in Japan, most of us share the same race, meaning that it never made me feel that I was discriminated against.
