66)  They walked up the road together to the old man’s shack and  went in through its open door.　
67)  The old man leaned the mast with its wrapped sail against the wall and  the boy put the box and the other gear beside it.
68)  The mast was nearly as long as the one room of the shack.
69)  The shack was made of the tough budshields of the royal palm which are called guano  and  in it  there was a bed,  a table,  one chair,  and  a place on the dirt floor to cook with charcoal.
70)  On the brown walls of the flattened, overlapping leaves of the sturdy fibered guano there was a picture in color of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and another of the Virgin of Cobre.

二人は、老人の棲家である粗末な小屋まで一緒に歩き、開け放してある入り口から中へ入った。

老人は、帆を巻きつけたマストを壁に立てかけ、少年はそのそばに木箱や他の道具を置いた。

マストは、小屋に一つしかない部屋の、奥行きと同じくらい長かった。

小屋は、グアノと呼ばれるダイオウヤシの、若芽を包む硬い苞でできていた。中には、ベッド、テーブル、椅子が一脚あり、土間には炭を使って炊事が出来る場所もある。

土間、というのはdirt floorという

丈夫な繊維からなるグアノの葉を伸ばして重ねて作られた褐色の壁には、多色刷りの絵画が二枚掛けられていた。『イエスの聖心』、そして『コブレの聖母マリア』。
