9年10ヶ月を共にした愛車フィアットパンダとお別れの日がやってきた。買ったその日にいきなりエンジントラブル、環八で大渋滞を引き起こしてしまった。これまでの修理代だけでもう一台買えたのではないか。キザな自動車評論家風に言ってみればまさに「世話のやける女」。東京から鹿児島への引っ越しも、この車で陸路をひた走ったのであった。何度も手放そうと思いつつ、ここまで付き合ってこれたのはジウジアーロによる優れたデザインに他ならない。「自分の車である」という実感が常にあったのも大きい。レンタカーで乗ったこのクラスの日本車はどれもお行儀の良い優等生であり、付き合いたいとは思えなかった。
10年間、有難うございました。僕はあれこれ言っている割に、メンテナンスは業者任せでした。次のオーナーは、もっと大切にしてくれる人であって欲しい・・・。

20071213こんにちはグランデプント

パンダにお別れを告げ、やってきたのはグランデプントです。またしてもフィアット、そしてジウジアーロによるデザイン。あれだけ修理代がかかったというのに、懲りないですね。でもパンダは93年式で、これは2008年モデル。15年の開きがあるのでテクノロジーは進化しているでしょう。フィアットは現在GM傘下にあり、アルファロメオとランチャともデザインルームは共通という事らしいですね。
最初に乗った車がスズキフロンテ360だったのですが、これもジウジアーロだと聞いています。つまり人生で自分がチョイスした車3台全てが彼のデザイン。どれも違ったタイプではありますが、同じ遺伝子を感じます。乗り換えに際しあれこれと悩んだ結果、いつも同じデザイナーにぶちあたる。これは単なる偶然ではないでしょう。
欧州では大ヒットしているこの車、鹿児島ではまだ珍しいと思われます。コイツを見かけたときはかなりの確率で僕がドライバーですので声をかけてください！チャオ！

この時点ではプントを手に入れてテンションが上がっていますが、ギア周りのトラブルで、4年ほどで手放すことになってしまうんです。初めて、新車で買ったというのに・・・鹿児島では、僕の他にもう一台だけ見かけた記憶があるんですが、今は見ることはないですね。面白いデザインだっただけに、残念です。

After saying goodbye to the Panda, we came to the Grande Punto. Another Fiat and another design by Giugiaro. The Panda was a 1993 model and this is a 2008 model.
