今回はThe Economistの…1 | Asia's old-age crisisと…2 | Britain's local politicsについて。

1 | Asia's old-age crisis

Asia is greying fast. But the region is unprepared for the challenges this poses, according to the Asian Development Bank. Health care is already overburdened in some countries. Pensions are also a concern. Pensions are also a concern. By 2035 400m Chinese people - more than a quarter of the population - will be 60 or older. But the public pension system could run out of money by then, according to a government think-tank. Attendees at the ADB's annual meeting, which begins in Tbilisi, Georgia, on Thursday, will ponder these problems - and possible solutions.

Policymakers must plan for populations that are not as sprightly as they once were. But in developing Asian countries the challenge is especially hard, because populations are getting old before they become rich. Take Thailand, where in 2021 14% of people were 65 or older and GDP per person was just $7,000. When Japan was similarly aged, in 1994, its income in real terms was nearly five times higher.
