自動車産業が盛んな"Motor Town"として知られているデトロイトでは、レコードレーベル"Motown"が設立。

後に同義語の音楽ジャンル名ともなるモータウンは、ソウルをポピュラー音楽として磨き、大量の楽曲を世に送り出した。
