訳例
陥没穴は、表層の何らかの形態崩壊によって起きる地面の窪みまたは穴です。

sinkhole：　陥没穴
depression：　くぼみ、へこみ
hole：　穴
ground：　地面
cause：　引き起こす
collapse：　崩落
surface layer：　表面の層、表層、地表層

過去分詞の形容詞的用法
過去分詞には、名詞を修飾（説明）する使い方があります。

過去分詞がそれ一語で名詞を修飾する場合は、普通は名詞の前に置き、過去分詞が他の語を伴う場合は、名詞の後ろに置きます。

「今日の英語」には、この「過去分詞の形容詞的用法」があります。
「caused」は「cause」の過去分詞で、「caused by some form of collapse of the surface layer」というように、長いかたまりになっており、後ろから「a depression or hole in the ground」を修飾しています。
