50年くらい前の本を読んでいたら、2ページに渡って白紙の部分があった。印刷時にインクがうまく出なかったと思われ、活版の跡だけがうっすらと残っていたので、鉛筆でこすって文字を浮き立たせて読んでいる。

When I was reading a book from about 50 years ago, there were two blank pages. It seems that the ink did not come out properly during printing, and only faint traces of the letterpress remained, so I rubbed it with a pencil to make the letters stand out and read them.
This technique is familiar from mysteries and riddles...I never thought it would be used in real life.
