1963年12月26日、伝説の始まりとなるビートルズの1Stアルバムのリリース日、そのアルバムのスタートを飾るのが今回の「I saw her standing there」。

当時の曲名は「Seventeen」という名前が予定されていて、マッカートニーはサウスポートランカシャでのライブからの帰宅後に作曲したとされている。
ベースのフレーズ、リフはチャックベリーの「I'm talking about you」より引用されている。

基本的にマッカートニーの作曲だが、一部歌詞をレノンが
Never been a beauty queen（　美女コンテストで優勝したことがない）
↓
You know that I mean（僕のいう意味が分かるかい？）
と変更しており、説明しないことで意味をぼやけさせ、でも力強く感じるように変更している。
